Goldey-Beacom earns a split versus Wilmington University

The Goldey-Beacom College baseball team earned a split on Friday in the doubleheader versus the Wilmington University Wildcats. The Lightning won the first game 5-0 and lost the second 12-2.

Game Leaders:

RBIs:  Marlon Lindsey Jr. would lead the team in RBIs with three in the win.

Runs: Marlon Lindsey Jr., Johnny Kampes, Kyle Walker, Matt Benner, and Darin Miller also led the team in runs with one in the game.

Hits:   Marlon Lindsey Jr., Johnny Kampes, Kyle Walker, Dante DiSabatino, and Christian Petrillo would lead the team in hits, with one in the win.

Home Runs: Kampes and Lindsey Jr. would each hit a home run in the game.

Game One Recap:

The pitchers had their top stuff for the first three innings of the game, as the two lineups only combined for three hits during that time.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, that would all change with one swing, as senior catcher Johnny Kampes hit a solo home run to left field to give Goldey-Beacom a 1-0 lead.

Fast forward to the eighth inning, where the Lightning would continue to add to their advantage, as they scored four runs on two hits and one error.

The first run of the inning came when sophomore outfielder Matt Benner scored from second on a fielding error by WilmU’s shortstop to give his team a 2-0 edge.

 Four batters later, senior outfielder Marlon Lindsey Jr. would hit a three-run home run homer to seal a 5-0 win over Wilmington University.

Pitching recap:

Junior pitcher Jake Kelchner had all his pitches working today, as he went eight innings, gave up seven hits, struck out six batters, hit one batter, and earned the win.

Sophomore pitcher Alex Hinton would close out the game, as he went one inning and struck one batter out.
