The Goldey-Beacom baseball team took one of two games on Friday against Limestone College Saints in their season opener.
In the early game, the Lightning loss 5-4 to the Saints but in the late game it was Goldey-Beacom taking a 5-0 win.
In the late game, the RBIs came from junior DH Tevin Thomas (1) and junior shortstop Justin Hill (1).
The runs in the game for Goldey-Beacom came from freshman rightfielder Marquise Wood (2), Hill (1), Thomas (1) and sophomore left fielder Maurice Parson (1).
There were nine hits in the game for the Lightning in the win and they came from Parson (3), Wood (2), Thomas (2), Hill (1) and junior first baseman Cole Collins (1).
Justin Hill also stole a base in Goldey-Beacom’s win.
On the pitching side, sophomore pitcher Trevor Jump was flat out dominant as he went seven innings, three hits, two walks, six strikeouts, complete game shutout and earned the win in the game.
Lightning Scores First Run of The Game In The Fifth Inning
Baseball fans that like like pitching duels would of loved the first four innings of this game because both of the teams pitchers were not letting hitters get nothing across home plate.
In the fifth inning that would all change when Goldey-Beacom scored the first run of the game by Justin Hill singling to left field which scored his teammate Marquise Wood to give their team a 1-0 lead.
Goldey-Beacom Scores Four In Seventh To Seal Win
Two innings later and the Lightning lineup came out swinging and landed four more runs to put on the scoreboard.
The first run in the top of seventh inning came from Tevin Thomas who singled to center field to score Maurice Parson which increased Goldey-Beacom’s lead to 2-0.
The next run happened as Thomas advanced to second which moved Justin Hill to third and Marquise Wood would score to give their team a 3-0 lead.
Goldey-Beacom’s last two runs of the game came from a fielding error which allowed junior third baseman Zach Roseman to go on base and Thomas and Hill scored.
It was the bottom of the seventh, pitcher Trevor Jump had two strikeouts in the inning as he made easy work of the Limestone hitters as he sealed the Lightning’s 5-0 win.
Jump ended with a solid stat line as he went seven innings, three hits, two walks, six strikeouts, complete game shutout and earned the win in the game.
Lightning close out the series with Limestone on February 16th at 12 PM ET.
