On day one of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, the Wilmington University softball team is still in the winner’s bracket thanks to a 4-1 win over Bloomfield College Bears and a thrilling late-game comeback 4-3 win over Caldwell University Cougars.
We will talk about both games, but first up is the early 4-1 winner!
Game One stats:
RBIs: Freshman outfielder Gabbie Saucedo led the team in RBIs with two.
Runs: Sophomore pitcher/second baseman Haley Downin, Graduate Student shortstop Lauren Lopez, and sophomore third baseman Lexi Moore led the team in runs scored with one.
Hits: Wilmington had a total of six hits in the game. Lopez and Saucedo led the team in hits in the win with two.
Home Runs: Lauren Lopez hit a solo home run in the win.
Stolen bases: Moore and freshman center fielder Tristyn Stewart each stole a base in the win.
Pitching: On the pitching side, freshman starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel went seven innings, gave up three hits, one run, two earned runs, one walk, eight strikeouts, and earned the win.
