Taylor Gillis’ walk-off single sends Wilmington University past Franklin Pierce in NCAA DII East Regional Tournament

The Wilmington University softball team opened the NCAA Division II softball East Regional Tournament with a walk-off 3-2 win over the Franklin Pierce University Ravens. The win sends Wilmington into the winner’s bracket, which means the team will face Georgian Court on Friday.

Game stats:

RBIs: Sophomore pitcher/second baseman Haley Downin led the team in RBIs with two.

Runs: Sophomore infielder Danielle Hess, freshman outfielder Gabbie Saucedo, and sophomore first baseman Sara Miller led the team in runs scored with one.

Hits: Wilmington had a total of eight hits in the game.  Sophomore outfielder Taylor Gillis and Miller led the team in hits in the win with two.

Stolen bases: Saucedo and Downin each stole a base in the win.

Pitching: On the pitching side, freshman starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel went seven innings, gave up seven hits, two runs, two earned runs, one walk, eight strikeouts, and earned the win.
