Our 2025-2026 season player review series continues with the Delaware State University men’s basketball team, as the spotlight turns to Sophomore guard Ponce James.
James led the team in scoring this season, with 13.7 points per game.
When DSU needed a bucket this season, James was there to answer, recording double-digits in 21 games. He posted three games where he scored 20 points.
The Delaware State sophomore scored his season-high of 22 points twice in the 2025-2026 year. The first time came against Norfolk State on January 10th, where James made seven of his 16 shots, drained four of his 11 three-pointers, and hit all four free throws.
His second 22-point game on January 17th versus Morgan State, where he made six of his 14 shots, drained two of five shots from the three-point line, and hit eight of his ten free throws.
The Connecticut native also had his eye on the boards throughout the season, as he was fifth on the team with three rebounds per game. James had 22 games this year, where he posted two or more rebounds.
His season-high in rebounds came in a 57-56 win over UMES on March 5th, where he collected six.
Ponce knew how to get to the basket, but he made sure his teammates did too, as he led the team in assists per game with 3.5. He recorded 19 games this season, where he dished out two or more assists.
The Bridgeport native’s season-high in assists came on November 18th in an 88-70 win over Cheyney, where he had nine.
James’s skills didn’t just end on the offensive side of the ball, as he led the team in steals per game with 1.9. He posted 15 games where he swiped two or more steals.
His season-high in steals came on December 6th in a 75-72 win over Delaware, where he swiped five.
James averaged 13.7 points per game, three rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.9 steals in 26 games.
