The Most Valuable Player of the Delaware State University’s offense through two games has been Freshman running back Sy’veon Wilkerson. The young running back has been the most consistent player on the Delaware State offense through two games and one of the reasons you do not want to miss any Hornets action this year.
The Hornets are the top-scoring offense in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) with seven touchdowns. Wilkerson accounts for four of the seven touchdowns, and the other two were from DSU’s quarterback Tylik Bethea.
Through two games, the Delaware State running back is the leading rusher in the MEAC with 190 yards, 4.2 yards per carry and four touchdowns.
In his first game of the 2021 season, Wilkerson had 26 carries for 92 yards and three touchdowns, which helped the Hornets to a 32-24 win over Bowie State.
In the second game of the season, Wilkerson had 19 carries for 98 yards, and one touchdown, which was not enough to get the win as Georgetown won 20-14 in overtime.
The DSU running back has earned back-to-back MEAC Rookie of the Week honors for each performance.
As Wilkerson looks to continue his hot start to the season, it may be tough against an East Tennessee State University defense that has only given up an average of 62 yards rushing per game. Also, ETSU opponents have only averaged 2.5 yards per rush in two games.
Will this be a challenge? Yes, as this is the same team that took down Vanderbilt at the beginning of September 23-3.
