The Goldey-Beacom College women’s basketball team opened the season on Friday with an 82-73 win over the College of Saint Rose Golden Knights.
Senior forward Alexis Harrison was the leading scorer for Goldey-Beacom with 20 points in the win.
Two other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits were senior forward Alanna Speaks (16) and senior forward Jhordan Gardner (11).
The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points off turnovers (34-24), fast-break points (17-14), bench points (40-34), assists (16-15), turnovers (24-34), and steals (15-12).
Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 41.5 % (27-65) and Saint Rose shooting 37.7 % ( 26-69). The Lightning also bested the Golden Knights from the three-point line, with the team shooting 33.3 %(7-21) and Saint Rose shooting 24.0 % (6-25). Goldey-Beacom was also the better team at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 67.7 %(21-31), and the Golden Knights shot 53.6 % (15-28).
