The Wilmington University men’s basketball team opened up the season on Friday with a 73-71 win over the College of Staten Island Dolphins. Senior guard Justin Thomas drained the game-winning shot with five seconds left.
Thomas led Wilmington in scoring in the win with 17 points.
Three other Wildcats who scored in double digits in the win were sophomore center Nalik Veasley (15), senior guard Randy Rickards (10), and sophomore guard Jordan Jackson (16).
WilmU had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included second chance points (7-2), points in the paint (40-24), fast break points (9-8), bench points (28-18), rebounds (32-26), assists (22-17), steals (9-7), and blocks (4-3).
The Wildcats also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 51.9% (28-54) and the Dolphins shooting 44.8%( 26-58).
