After a big win on Saturday against CACC rival Philadelphia, Wilmington University just did not bring the momentum in against another CACC foe, USciences Devils. The Wildcats lost Tuesday night 91-80 to the those fiery Devils who Wilmington just could not slow down most of the game.
The one stat that stands out in this loss is Wilmington got trounced by USciences in rebounds by 20 in this game. The Wildcats had 22 and USciences had 44 rebounds during the game.
It all started in the first half where Wilmington came out with an early 6-2 lead, thanks to Drew Johnson’s 3 made free throws and Tyaire Ponzo-Meek’s three pointer. Wildcats lead did not last long when at the 17:09 mark in the first half, Devils JJ Melchior hit a three pointer to give USciences their first lead in the game, 9-8. Then after USciences went ahead they went on a 8-0 run to put the score 17-8. Brendan Crawford led the Devils with 6 points in that run. Pretty much after the run, The Devils continued their dominance throughout the first half. USciences led Wilmington by 20 at one point in the first half and by halftime the score was 51-35.
Nick Richards led the Wildcats with 10 points in the first half.
Will Gregorits led USciences with 20 points in the first half.
In the second half, Wilmington scratched and clawed their way back in the game and finally at the 9:55 mark in the second half they closed the deficit to single digits. Thanks to a Drew Johnson three pointer the score was 63-56. Wilmington got within an 5 point gap twice in the second half but never get any closer than that. The Devils were on fire they were hitting any shot they put up and that is including free throws which they made their last eight to close out the game in 91-80 win.
Wildcats Nick Richards led the team with 17 points in the game.
Devils Will Gregorits led his team with 31 points on the night.
Wildcats (5-4) look to get back on track has they had another CACC opponent, Georgian Court on Saturday at 3pm ET.
