Blue Hens lead by 21 points at the end of the first quarter.
The game started with Delaware winning the coin toss and deferring to get the ball first in the second half.
Campbell’s first drive of the game would start at their own 19-yard line, and the team would go 40 yards on six plays. They would fail to get the first down on a fourth and one on Delaware’s 41-yard line on the seventh play to turnover the ball over on downs.
The Delaware offense would not waste much time on their first drive of the game, as the team would cruise 59 yards in two plays to end with quarterback Ryan O’Connor finding wide receiver Jourdan Townsend for the 51-yard touchdown reception to give their team a 7-0 lead with 11:45 remaining in the first quarter.
So, would the Fighting Camels move the ball better on their next possession? No, in three plays, the team would rattle off 27 yards, and then on the fourth play, their quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams lost two yards on a run and then fumbled the ball, which was recovered by Hens defensive back Ty Davis at Delaware’s 50-yard line.
UD’s offense would take advantage of the turnover, as the team would drive 50 yards in four plays to end with quarterback Ryan O’Connor finding wide receiver Joshua Youngblood for the 17-yard score to push the Blue Hens edge to 14-0 with 8:30 left in the first quarter.
It wouldn’t get better for Campbell on their next drive, as the team would march 77 yards in 11 plays to end with their quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams’ pass getting intercepted on a first and five at University of Delaware’s five-yard line by Khalil Dawsey, who took it all the way back for a 100-yard pick-six to extend the Hens lead to 21-0 to end the first quarter.
Delaware would lead by 24 points at the end of the first half.
The Hens would have the lone scoring drive in the second quarter, where the team set up shop at their own three-yard line with 12:28 left in the first half.
UD would fly 78 yards down the field in 16 plays to end, with kicker Nate Reed booting a 36-yard field goal to up his team’s advantage to 24-0 at the end of the first half.
Hens would lead by 31 points at the end of the third quarter.
After the University of Delaware went three and out on their first drive of the second half, they would not repeat that on their second possession, which started at Campbell’s 30-yard line thanks to Khalil Dawsey’s second interception of the day.
The Blue Hens drove 30 yards in five plays to end with Ryan O’Connor finding Joshua Youngblood for the second time in the game to expand their team’s edge to 31-0 with 11:40 left in the third quarter.
UD’s offense would continue to roll when the team got the ball back two drives later at the 10:12 minute mark at their own 20-yard line.
Delaware would march 80 yards in 13 plays to end with O’Connor finding tight end Braden Brose, who took the reception 12 yards for the score to push the lead to 38-0 with 4:22 remaining in the third.
After the Hens scored their touchdown, the Fighting Camels would finally have their first scoring drive of the game in the late stages of the third quarter.
Campbell would march 75 yards in eight plays to end with their quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams rushing three yards for a touchdown to slice the score to 38-7 at the end of the third quarter.
Blue Hens take home 45-7 victory!
Fast forward to the 8:15 minute mark in the fourth quarter, where UD’s last scoring drive would start at their own 19-yard line.
The Blue Hens would rattle off 81 yards in nine plays to end with running back Saeed St. Fleur rushing for the one-yard touchdown to seal a 45-7 victory over Campbell.
Except for the Fighting Camels’ 75-yard touchdown drive, the University of Delaware would keep Campbell gaining over 20 yards on five of the six possessions in the second half.
