The Wilmington University baseball team earned their 19th win of the season on Tuesday with a dominating 13-3 victory over in-state rival Goldey-Beacom College.

Wilmington would be the team to get the scoring started in this one, as the team pushed in one run on one hit and one error in the first inning.
The first run in the game came when junior outfielder Nick Nocella hit a single through the left side of the field, which had Graduate student outfielder Nic Hertzfeld advance to third. Hertzfeld would then go home after Goldey-Beacom’s left fielder made a fielding error on the play to take the score to 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
Two innings later, the Wildcats’ bats would start to spark, as the team scored five runs on five hits in the third.
Senior utility player Eddie Parry would start the scoring action, as he hit a two-run double to right center field to give his team a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
Freshman infielder Tyler Pirrung would get in on the fun as he knocked in an RBI single up the middle of the field to push WilmU’s advantage to 4-0.
Junior first baseman JJ Killen would be the next batter up, as he slapped a two-run double to right field to extend his team’s edge to 6-0 in the bottom of the third inning.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Wilmington would continue to cushion their lead, as Eddie Parry would hit a three-run homer to left-center field to expand his team’s advantage to 9-0.
It would take five innings, but Goldey-Beacom would score their first run of the game during this time to cut the score to 9-1.
Wilmington would answer back by adding one run of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the team a 10-1 lead.
In the sixth inning, the Lightning would add another run on the board to slice the score to 10-2.
Goldey’s Beacom’s last score of the game came in the top of the seventh inning when Demetrius Johnson slapped an RBI double down the left field line to cut the deficit to 10-3.
WilmU would respond by scoring three runs on two hits in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the score to 13-3.
Junior catcher Jack McDonald would push in the first run in the inning, as he had an RBI walk to give the Wildcats an 11-3 edge.
Nick Nocella would be the next batter to come up to the plate, as he would knock a two-run single through the right side to give his team a 13-3 victory.
Pitching recap:
Junior pitcher Matt Warrington had a solid outing, as he went five innings, gave up three hits, one run, one earned run, four walks, hit a batter, eight strikeouts, and earned the win.
Senior pitcher Rich Albrecht would relieve Warrington by going one inning, giving up two hits, one run, one earned run, two walks, and two strikeouts.
Junior pitcher Tyler Brown would finish the game, as he went one inning, gave up two hits, one run, and one earned run.
