The Wilmington University softball team picked up a split on Tuesday in a doubleheader versus the Caldwell University Cougars. Wilmington won the first game 4-3 in 11 innings and lost the second 4-2.

Game Leaders:
RBIs: Taylor Gillis and Tristyn Stewart would lead the team in RBIs, with one in the win.
Runs: Gillis, Sara Miller, Haley Downin, and Stewart also led the team in runs, with one in the game.
Hits: Gillis, Moore, Miller, Gabriella Saucedo, and Bri Coyle would lead the team in hits, with one in the win.
Stolen bases: Jess Reed and Tristyn Stewart led the team with one stolen base in the win.
Game One Recap:
Caldwell would get the scoring started in this one as the team pushed in one run on three hits in the top of the second inning to give them a 1-0 lead.
Wilmington would score their first run of the day in the bottom of the third inning when sophomore outfielder/catcher Tristyn Stewart scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at one.
In the next five innings, the two pitching staffs took over the game, as no runs would be scored, and only four hits were given up.
Courtney Grundhauser would break up the pitching duel in the ninth inning, as she hit an RBI double to right field to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead.
WilmU would answer back in the bottom of the inning with Tristyn Stewart pushing in a run, as she had an RBI walk to tie the score at 2.
The extra innings would continue as Caldwell’s Jessica Klein would slap an RBI double to left center to give her team a 3-2 edge in the tenth inning.
Wilmington would respond in the bottom of the tenth by sophomore outfielder Taylor Gillis scoring on a throwing error by the Cougars pitcher to tie the score at 3.
Taylor Gillis would come up big in the bottom of the 11th inning, as she pushed in the game-winning run with a two-out RBI single to give the Wildcats a 4-3 victory over Caldwell.
Pitching recap:
Redshirt sophomore pitcher Delani Sheehan went two innings, gave up three hits, one run, one earned run, one walk, and one strikeout.
Freshman pitcher Brooke Koehler relieved Sheehan, as she had her way with hitters in this outing by going nine innings, giving up four hits, two runs, zero earned runs, two walks, four strikeouts, and earning the win.
