Wilmington University hits six home runs in a 15-7 win over Kutztown

The Wilmington University baseball team earned their 14th win of the season on Tuesday with a dominating 15-7 victory over the Kutztown University Bears. The ball was flying out of the park today as Wilmington hit six home runs in the matchup.

RBIs: Nick Nocella and Shawn Haut would lead the team in RBIs with three in the win.

Runs: Matt Warrington also led the team in runs with three in the game.

Hits: Warrington would lead the team in hits with three in the win.

Stolen bases: Nic Hertzfeld would lead the team in stolen bases with two.

Home Runs: Jack McDonald, Nick Nocella, Eddie Parry, Shawn Haut, Tyler Pirrung, and Matt Warrington each hit a home run in the game.

Game Recap:

The game would start off with a bang, with junior catcher Jack McDonald and junior third baseman Shawn Haut each hitting a home run in the top of the first inning. McDonald’s was a solo jack, and Haut’s was a three-run dinger, which gave Wilmington a 4-0 lead after one inning.

Wilmington wasn’t the only team to knock a ball out of the park, as Kutztown’s Gavin Moretski would hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to cut the lead to 4-1.

In the top of the second inning, WilmU would score four runs on four hits and one error.

One of the scoring highlights of the inning came when junior outfielder Nick Nocella hit a two-run homer to left field, which would give his team an 8-1 advantage.

Gavin Moretski would continue to be the hot bat for the Bears, as he would hit an RBI double to right center to slice the lead to 8-2 in the bottom of the third inning.

In the top of the fourth inning, Wilmington would continue to find ways to score, as the team pushed in four runs on four hits and one error.

The Wildcats would be active on the bases in this inning, as they advanced on a balk, walked, advanced on a wild pitch, scored on a wild pitch, hit by a pitch, and scored on a throw.

After four innings, WilmU would lead 12-2 over Kutztown.

The Wildcats’ bats would continue to spark, as junior shortstop Matt Warrington and senior utility player Eddie Parry each hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to give their team a 14-2 advantage.

Kutztown’s Gavin Moretski would continue to be their scoring machine, as he hit an RBI single through the left side of the field to cut the lead to 14-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

In the top of the sixth inning, Freshman infielder Tyler Pirrung joined the home run party as he hit a solo jack to left field to extend WilmU’s edge to 15-3.

Fast forward to the seventh inning, where the Bears would charge back to score four runs, but Wilmington would hang on to snag a 15-7 victory.

Pitching recap:

Graduate student pitcher Matt Boyko would start the game, as he went one inning, gave up one hit, one run, one earned run, one homerun, one strikeout, and earned the win.

Six relief pitchers would come into this game, which included Eddie Parry, who closed the game out by going one inning, giving up one hit, one walk, and three strikeouts.
