3 Blue Hens to watch for in Route 1 Rivalry matchup

After upsetting the Navy Midshipmen 14-7 last weekend, the University of Delaware’s football team moves on to face their Route 1 Rival, the Delaware State University Hornets, on Saturday. Both teams are looking to keep their 2022 record perfect as the Hornets also won last week by demolishing Lincoln University (PA) by a score of 34-0.

The matchup between these two teams has been in the favor of the Blue Hens, as they have won all ten meetings since this rivalry has begun in 2007.

It seems when the Blue Hens take the field versus the Hornets, points are not in short supply as the team’s average winning margin is 36.6 points. Delaware’s largest margin of victory in this series came on September 17th, 2011, when the team defeated DSU 45-0.

One game where the score was close was when the University of Delaware only beat Delaware State by ten points with a final tally of 27-17 on September 9th, 2009.

In the last two meetings, Delaware has stayed hot versus the Hornets as the team has outscored them 65-27.
