Wilmington University prevails in extra innings to sweep West Chester

The Wilmington University softball team scored 13 runs in the sweep of their doubleheader against the West Chester University Golden Rams on Tuesday. Wilmington won the first game 6-5 and was victorious in the second game 7-6. Both wins were not easy as they went into extra innings (eight innings).

We will talk about both games, but first up is the early 6-5 winner!

Game One stats:

RBIs: Freshman outfielder Gabbie Saucedo, sophomore third baseman Lexi Moore, senior first baseman Kiersten Comer, and freshman catcher/ third baseman Emma Zimmerman led the team in RBIs with one each.

Runs: Sophomore third baseman/outfielder Sara Miller and Saucedo led the team in runs with two scored.

Hits: Wilmington had a total of 11 hits in the game. Saucedo and Moore led WilmU in the hits with two.

Stolen bases: Miller, Saucedo, and Moore each stole a base in the win.

Pitching: On the pitching side, starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel went 6.1 innings, gave up ten hits, four runs, four earned runs, two walks, one home run, and five strikeouts.

Sophomore pitcher Molly Dill went 1.2 innings, gave up one run, had two strikeouts, and earned the win.
