Delaware Sports Blitz Interview: Delaware Tech’s Zach Hart

Delaware Technical Community College student-athletes interviews are back! Every Thursday, Delaware Sports Blitz will feature interviews with the student-athletes from the Community College.

The student-athlete we are featuring this week comes from Delaware Tech’s baseball team, which is Zach Hart.

Hart talks about everything from how he started playing sports, and why he chose to play baseball at Delaware Tech.

How did you start playing sports?

“Back when I was about five years old, my dad introduced me to baseball, and I have been playing it ever since.”

What adjustments did you have to make from the jump from high school to college, regarding the sport you play?

“Just realizing everyone I’m playing against is in college, and I should not take anyone lightly.”

How do you keep yourself in game shape in the off-season for your sport?

“I play other sports and stay in the weight room.”

What is the best part of playing your particular position?

“The support I get from my teammates while I’m on and off the mound.”

What has a former or current coach taught you, that you still use today on or off the playing field?

“My high school coach told me everyone feeds off my body language, so never show when I’m down.”

What is a typical day for you when the season is in full force?

“Keeping my arm healthy by throwing pens and making sure we are doing something to help us one way or another.”

What do you feel is your greatest strength?

“My greatest strength is not letting anything get to me and my changeup.”

What do you feel you are weakest at and what do you work on to improve it?

“My weakest thing is procrastination, and I will try to get my work done earlier.”


Describe some of the highlights of your athletic career.

“Sweeping Wilmington University was really fun this past fall, and in my senior year of high school, I was named first-team all-state.”

What is the best part of playing on a team?

“The energy we have while playing and how close we are.”

How do you stay motivated during the highs and lows of a season?

“Just knowing we have a good group of ballplayers, who I know will fight it out until the end.”

What has been the biggest challenge you have faced and how did you overcome it?

“Finally, living on my own while handling eating, schoolwork, and baseball and, on top of that, succeed at them.”

In what ways, does playing a sport, help you with your studies?

“It makes me more responsible because I have to focus on both of those and succeed.”

How would you like to be remembered by your teammates and coaches?

“Just someone they could trust on the mound and someone they look for to do anything.”

Why did you choose to play at Delaware Tech?

“It was the best way for my education, and also, my coach was putting together a very good team, and I knew we had a good chance to be very good this season, and I am glad I took the risk. Roll Squares!”
