Ligonde, Derry, & Jones combine for 39 points in Goldey-Beacom’s 64-60 win over USciences

Goldey-Beacom leads by one point after one half of play

The game started with the Lightning running off to a 5-0 lead with 18:05 left in the first half. Juran Ligonde and Nazim Derry would score all five points on the run.

Nearly in the next eight minutes, Goldey-Beacom College would outscore the Devils 14-11 to give them their largest lead of the first half, which was an eight-point lead (19-11) with 9:26 left in the half. Sophomore forward Mattia Morini was the leader of this run as he scored eight of the 14 points. Rebounding was also a factor during this time, as the team collected ten rebounds.

Starting at the 8:56 minute mark, USciences would go on a 16-9 run to cut the lead to one point (28-27) after one half of play.

Lightning win 64-60!

In the first seven minutes of the second half, the intensity of the match went up to another level, as the lead changed six times, and the score was tied two times. The last bucket during those seven minutes came from the Devils Tommy Gardler, who drained a three-point shot to tie the game at 43 with 13:03 left in the game.

It would be a fight to the finish as the two teams would continue to exchange buckets as the lead changed seven times, and the score was tied six times in the next 12 minutes. The last bucket during that time would come from the USciences Joemel McNair, who made a free throw to tie the game at 60 with 54 seconds left.

Goldey-Beacom would make four free throw shots as the clocked ticked down to grab a hard-fought 64-60 win over the Devils.
