Season Stats: Wilmington’s Haley Downin

Delaware Sports Blitz will be showcasing student-athletes performances from this past season each week.

Each week we will look at different colleges from the state of Delaware and showcase their athlete’s performance in the chosen sport of the week.

This week is all about Wilmington’s softball team which will continue with freshman infielder/pitcher Haley Downin.

Downin had a 3.77 ERA, 0-5 record, 32 hits, 16 runs, 14 earned runs, nine walks, nine strikeouts, and three home runs in 26 innings in eight appearances this season.

On the offensive side, Downin had one run, six hits, one RBI, one strikeout, and a batting average of .207 in 10 games.

 The Pasadena, Maryland native was among the best in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in earned run average as she placed 20th with 3.77. The Wilmington freshman was in the top 10 (ranked 9th) for most innings pitched in the CACC with 26.

Wilmington Fall 3-2 To Western Oregon In Season Opener 

The Wildcats opened the season with a tough 3-2 loss to Western Oregon on March 1st.

Downin pitched 7.2 innings, gave up five hits, three runs, two earned runs, two walks, four strikeouts and one home run in the loss. On the offensive side, Downin had a hit in the game.

Back To Back Losses For Wildcats With 6-2 Loss Vs Grand Valley State

Wilmington’s errors ( four) in this game was one of the main reasons the team was saddled with a 6-2 loss against Grand Valley State.

Downin pitched 1.2 innings, gave up three hits, one run, one earned run, one walk and one home run in the loss. On the offensive side, Downin had a hit in the game.

Wilmington Lose In High Scoring Game Vs #4 Rollins

WilmU hung with Rollins for most of the game but Tars would come up late to score one last run to get an 8-7 win.

Downin pitched 0.1 innings and had one walk. On the offensive side, Downin had one hit, one RBI, and had one strikeout in the game.

WilmU Gets Swept By #4 Rollins

WilmU had an early lead in this game but Rollins would mount a late-game come back to take a 6-5 win on March 2nd.

The freshman pitcher pitched 1.1 innings, four hits, one run, and one earned run in the loss. On the offensive side, Downin had one run and three hits in the game.

Wilmington Loses A Tough One To #15 Saint Leo

On March 4th, Saint Leo’s pitching was able to get Wilmington offense off balanced which led to a 2-0 loss.

Downin pitched six innings, gave up three hits, two runs, two earned runs, one walk and had two strikeouts. 

Wilmington Get Swept By Florida Tech

In the second game of the doubleheader against Florida Tech, the Wildcats did hold an early lead but the Panthers would score four runs late to win 5-4.

Downin pitched 6.2 innings, gave up 12 hits, five runs, five earned runs, three walks, four strikeouts, and one home run.
