DeFreese, Enabosi & Dickey All Record Double-Doubles In 63-54 Win Vs College of Charleston

The University of Delaware women’s basketball team ended their three-game losing streak on Thursday, as they defeated the College of Charleston Cougars 63-54 at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The leading scorer in the game for the Blue Hens was senior forward Samone DeFreese who scored 20 points. Defreese also recorded a double-double in the win as she had 11 rebounds with 20 points.

Two other Delaware players had double-doubles in the win which they were graduate student forward Nicole Enabosi and sophomore guard/forward Jasmine Dickey.

Enabosi had 16 points and 13 rebounds in the game.

Dickey had 15 points and 12 rebounds in the game.

Senior forward Rebecca Lawrence was having a party on the court in the win as she hosted a block party as she recorded 10 blocks. Lawrence’s 10 blocks broke the program’s record for blocks in a single game.

Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game which included points in the paint (36-22), second-chance points (13-8),fast-break points (13-4), rebounds (58-36), assists (17-9) and blocks (13-2).

The Blue Hens also had the advantage of shooting as well, as the team shot 38.6 % (22-57) and the College of Charleston shooting 27.3 % (18-66). The Hens also had the advantage over the Cougars at the three-point line as the team shot 25.0 % (3-12) and the College of Charleston shot 24.0 % (6-25). Blue Hens also bested the Cougars at the foul line with the team shooting 59.3 % (16-27) and with the College of Charleston shooting 52.2 % (12-23).

Delaware Down By Six At The End Of The First Quarter

The leading scorer for the Hens in the first quarter was Samone DeFreese who had six points. As a team, Delaware shot 33.33 % (4-12) in the first quarter and 66.67 % (4-6) at the free-throw line.

The first quarter was the College of Charleston’s best shooting quarter, as the team shot 43.75 % (7-16). The Cougars also shot 80.00 % (4-5) at the free-throw line in the first quarter.

In the first six minutes of this game, the two teams came out swinging as the lead between the teams changed nine times and the score was tied twice. At the 4:29 minute mark, the score would be tied 12-12.

Starting at the 3:57 minute mark, the Cougars would go on an 8-2 run to end the first quarter with a 20-14 lead.

Blue Hens Run In Second Sends Them Into The Half With A Tie

The leading scorer for the Hens in the second quarter was Jasmine Dickey with seven points. The Blue Hens’ shooting improved in the second quarter as the team shot 46.15 % (6-13). Delaware also shot 50.00 % (1-2) in the second quarter at the free-throw line.

College of Charleston had its worst shooting quarter of the game in the second, as the team shot 15% (3-20). The Cougars also shot 50.00 % (1-2) at the free-throw line in the second quarter.

The second quarter started with the Blue Hens going on a 10-5 run which cut the Cougars’ lead to one point (25-24) with 2:26 left in the half. Delaware had three blocks, nine defensive rebounds, four offensive rebounds, and one steal during that 10-5 run.

The Blue Hens would outscore the Cougars 4-3 for the rest of the quarter to end with the score being tied at 28 going into the half.

Delaware Leads By 11 At The End Of The Third Quarter

The leading scorer for the Hens in the third quarter was Nicole Enabosi who had eight points.  Delaware had its best shooting percentage in the third quarter, as the team shot 47.37 % (9-19). The Blue Hens also shot 80.00 % (4-5) at the free-throw line in the third quarter.

College of Charleston shot 21.43 % (3-14) in the third quarter and the team also shot 50.00 % (3-6) at the free-throw line.

The third quarter started with Hens going on a 9-3 run which gave the team a 37-31 lead with 4:46 left in the quarter. Delaware had four blocks, one steal, three offensive rebounds, and seven defensive rebounds in the 9-3 run.

Starting at the 3:51 minute mark, Delaware would go on a 13-6 run which pushed their lead to 50-39 at the end of the third. Nicole Enabosi was the leader of this run as she scored five of the 13 points.

Hens Lean On Their Free Throw Shooting To Seal Win

The leading scorer for the Hens in the fourth quarter was Samone DeFreese who had seven points. Delaware’s shooting regressed in the fourth quarter as the team shot 23.08 % (3-13). The Hens also shot 50.00 % (7-14) at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.

College of Charleston shot 31.25 % (5-16) in the fourth quarter and 40.00 % (4-10) at the free-throw line.

The fourth quarter started with the Hens outscoring the Cougars 10-6 which pushed the team’s lead to 15 (60-45) with 3:10 left in the game.

The Cougars would outscore the Blue Hens 9-3 for the rest of the game but it would not matter as Delaware would take home a 63-54 win.

The Hens play their final regular-season game of the season on March 7th against UNCW at the Bob Carpenter Center. The tip-off is at 1 PM ET.
