The Goldey-Beacom College men’s basketball team is now on a four-game winning streak as the team defeated the Chestnut Hill College Griffins on Saturday at Sorgenti Arena.
The leading scorer of the game for Goldey-Beacom was junior guard Kyle Elliot as he scored 14 points.
Two other Lightning players scored in double-digits which was freshman guard Nazim Derry (13) and freshman forward Nahsir Morgan (11).
Goldey-Beacom had the advantage in multiple categories in the game which included points in the paint (30-22), points off turnovers (28-12), second-chance points (15-13), bench points (23-6), rebounds (36-34), assists (18-9), turnovers (15-25), blocks (3-1) and steals (16-7).
The Lightning also had the advantage of shooting as well, as the team shot 44.4 %(28-63) and Chestnut Hill College shot 34.0 % (16-47). Goldey-Beacom also bested the Griffins in three-point shooting as the Lightning shot 30.6 % (11-36) and Chestnut Hill College shot 21.1 % (4-19).
Goldey-Beacom Up By 21 At Halftime
The leading scorer for the Lightning in the first half was sophomore forward Juran Ligonde with nine points. As a team, Goldey-Beacom shot 47.2 % (17-23) in the first half and they also shot 66.7 % (2-3) from the free-throw line.
Chestnut Hill struggled with their shooting in the first half as the team shot 23.8 % (5-21) and they also shot 78.6 % (11-14) from the free-throw line.
Goldey-Beacom put the gas on the pedal early in this game as the team opened up the first quarter going on a 17-3 run. Kyle Elliot led the charge on this run as he scored five of the 17 points.
Starting at the 8:24 minute mark, the Lightning outscored the Griffins 16-11 for the rest of the quarter to end with a 44-23 lead. The leading scorer for Goldey-Beacom on that run was Ligonde as he scored seven of the 16 points.
First Half Stats
Goldey-Beacom shot 47.2 % (17-23) in the first half and the Chestnut Hill shot 23.8 % (5-21).
The Lightning shot 66.7 % (2-3)at the free-throw line and the Griffins shot 78.6 % (11-14).
The leading scorer for the Lightning in the first half was Juran Ligonde who had nine points.
The leading scorers for the Chestnut Hill in the first half were Scottie Spann and Gabe Perez each scored eight points.
Goldey-Beacom Takes Home A 21 Point Win
The leading scorer for the Lightning in the second half was Nazim Derry who had seven points. As a team, Goldey-Beacom regressed some in their shooting in the second half as the team 40.7 % (11-27) and they also shot 41.7 % from the free-throw line.
The Griffins improved their shooting in the second half as the team shot 42.3 % (11-26) and they also shot 60.0 % (6-10) from the free-throw line.
Chestnut Hill would open up the second half with outscoring the Lightning 12-8 which would pull Goldey-Beacom’s lead to 52-35 with 15:05 left in the game.
At the 4:23 minute mark, the Lightning would go on a 7-2 run which would seal a 74-53 win over Chestnut Hill.
Goldey-Beacom travels back home to take on Southern New Hampshire on December 14th at 1 PM ET.
