Christmas may have come and gone but the Wesley College men’s basketball team gave their fans a belated Christmas gift, as the team beat Emory & Henry College Wasps 97-75 on Saturday at the Freeman Center.
The leading scorer of the game for Wesley was senior guard Brian Cameron who scored 34 points. Cameron also had a double-double in the game as he collected 10 rebounds with his 34 points.
Senior forward Derick Charles also had a double-double in the game as the Wesley player had 14 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
Two other Wesley players scored in double digits and they were sophomore guard Greg Bloodsworth (21) and senior guard Mychal Stefanides (20).
Senior forward Terrence Braxton was a rebounding machine in the dominant win on Saturday as he pulled down 14 rebounds.
Wesley had the advantage in multiple categories in the game which included points from turnovers (11-4), second-chance points (20-13), points in the paint (28-20), rebounds (57-31) assists (19-11) and blocks (4-1).
The Wolverines also had the advantage of shooting as well, with the team shooting 40.8%( 29-71) and with Emory & Henry College shooting 35.8% (24-67). Wesley also held the advantage in three-point shooting with the team having a 41.9% shooting percentage (13-31) and with the Wasps having a 32.4% (12-37) shooting percentage.
Wolverines Take A Nine-Point Lead To The Half
The leading scorer for Wesley in the first half was Brian Cameron with 16 points. Mychal Stefanides and Greg Bloodsworth were right behind Cameron with 14 points each in the first half.
As a team, Wesley shot 41.2% (14-34) in the first half and they also shot 90.0% (9-10) at the free-throw line.
Emory & Henry had a 37.1% (13-35) shooting percentage in the first half and the team also shot 100% (5-5) at the free-throw line.
The game started with the Wolverines jumping out to a 9-0 lead which was led by Stefanides who had six points during that run.
The Wasps would not stay silent for long as the team went on their own 13-6 run which decreased Wesley’s lead to 15-13 with 12:36 left in the half.
Emory & Henry’s run did not discourage the Wolverines as the team answered back with a 15-8 run which pushed their lead to 30-21 with 5:52 left in the half. Cameron would be the leader on this run as he scored 11 of the 15 points.
Each team would score 16 points for the rest of the half which would leave Wesley leading 46-37 at the half.

Wesley shot 41.2% (14-34) in the first half and Emory & Henry shot 37.1% (13-35).
Wolverines shot 90.0% (9-10) at the free-throw line and the Wasps shot 100% (5-5).

The leading scorer in the first half for Emory & Henry was Jordan Grant who had nine points.
Rebounding Key To Second Half Domination by Wesley
The leading scorer for Wesley in the second half was Brian Cameron with 18 points. Derick Charles was right behind Cameron with scoring 14 points in the second half.
As a team, Wesley shot 40.5% (15-37) in the second half and they also shot 77.3% (17-22) at the free-throw line.
Wesley made sure the Wasps did not get any good looks in the second half as the team shot 34.4% (11-32). Emory & Henry also shot 83.3% (10-12) at the free-throw line.
One of the keys to Wesley’s success in the second half was the squad outrebounded the Wasps 31-8.
Starting at the 16:03 minute mark, the Wolverines went on an 11-3 run which pushed their lead to 65-49 with 12:29 left in the game. Charles led the scoring on that run by having six of the 11 points.
At the 3:29 minute mark, Wesley would hit the gas pedal again as the team went on a 16-6 run which increased their lead to 94-72 with 1:09 left in the game. Cameron was the leading man on that run as he scored seven of the 16 points.
Wesley would take home a 97-75 dominating road win as the final buzzer sounded.
