The Wilmington University women’s soccer team took home their first win of the season on Wednesday with a 5-0 victory over Caldwell University. This was a rematch of last year’s CACC Championship.

Wilmington University takes home a 5-0 win!
The Wildcats didn’t waste any time getting on the board in this match as junior midfielder Stef Barrios found the net around the 6:50 minute mark to give her team a 1-0 edge. Senior midfielder Cayley Winters assisted on the goal.
Almost 16 minutes later, freshman midfielder Braelyn Jalayer punched one in for the score to put WilmU up 2-0. Junior defenderIsabella Valentino assisted on the goal.
A couple of minutes later, Graduate student forward/defender Claudia Gillum joined the scoring party as she found the net to push the team’s advantage to 3-0. Senior defender Maria Leguizamon assisted on the goal.
Jalayer would score her second goal of the game at the 27-minute mark to cushion the Cats’ lead to 4-0.
Barrios would seal the dominant win in the second half as she knocked in her second goal of the day in the later minutes of the match to put the final score at 5-0.
WilmU made sure Caldwell didn’t have many good looks at the net as they held the Cougars to eight shots in the entire match.

The standouts in the game for the Wildcats were Stef Barrios, Cayley Winters, Braelyn Jalayer, Isabella Valentino, Claudia Gillum, Maria Leguizamon, redshirt junior goalkeeperIsabella Mazzone, and freshman goalkeeper Katarina Beier.
Barrios had four shots, four shots at the goal, and scored two goals in the match.
Winters had two shots, two shots at the goal, and one assist in the win.
Jalayer had six shots, two shots at the goal, and scored two goals in the game.
