The Goldey-Beacom men’s soccer team earned their first win of the season on Wednesday with a dominating 5-1 win over the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Mountain Cats.
Game Recap:
Goldey-Beacom takes a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half.
The scoring didn’t come right away, but in the 33rd minute, Lightning sophomore defender Jacob Wojciechowski blasted the ball into the goal to give his team a 1-0 edge. Sophomore midfielder Matt Porto assisted on the score.
The Lightning take home a 5-1 win!
Jacob Wojciechowski wasn’t done scoring in this match; in the 55th minute, he found the back of the net to push his team to a 2-0 lead. Freshman forward Jamal Richards assisted on the goal.
A couple of minutes later, senior midfielder Derrick Muhire joined the scoring party and punched in the ball to give GBC a 3-0 advantage. Richards earned his second assist of the game on this goal.
At the 62nd minute, junior midfielder/forward Aaron Nelson wanted in the on scoring at his found of the back of net to put Goldey-Beacom up 4-0. Matt Porto earned his second assist of the game on this goal.
Pitt-Johnstown would finally get on the board at the 78th minute when Jon-Luc Renaud found the net to cut the score to 4-1.
To close out the game, Goldey’s Matt Porto would score to seal a 5-1 win over the Mountain Cats.
Pitt-Johnstown had trouble finding good looks in the second half as they only had three shots.

The standouts in the game for the Lightning were Jacob Wojciechowski, Jamal Richards, Derrick Muhire, Aaron Nelson, Matt Porto, and sophomore goalkeeperAdham Mohamed.
Wojciechowski had two shots, two shots on goal, and scored two goals in the win.
Richards had two assists in the match.
Muhire had two shots, one on goal, and scored one goal in the game.
Nelson had one shot, one on goal, and scored one goal in the win.
Porto had two shots, one on goal, scored one goal, and had two assists in the match.
Mohamed allowed one goal and had three saves in 90 minutes in the win.
