The Goldey-Beacom College baseball team earned a sweep on Friday to advance to the double-elimination portion of the CACC tournament. The Lightning beat the Jefferson University Rams 9-5 in the first game and 5-3 in the second one.
Let’s start with their Game One 9-5 win!

Game Leaders:
RBIs: Demetrius Johnson would lead the team in RBIs, with four in the win.
Runs: Johnny Kampes, Kyle Walker, and Braden Kolmansberger also led the team in runs with two in the game.
Hits: Kampes would lead the team in hits, with three in the win.
Home Runs: Johnson and Darin Miller hit a home run in the game.
Stolen Bases: Matt Benner would lead the team in stolen bases with two.
Game Recap:
Goldey-Beacom would strike first in this game when junior infielder Darin Miller hit a two-run homer to left field to give his team a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
Jefferson would respond in the top of the third inning by scoring four runs on two hits and two errors to take a 4-2 edge.
It would not take the Lightning very long to get the lead back as the team scored five runs on four hits and three errors in the bottom of the third inning.
Junior infielder Dante DiSabatino pushed in a run in the inning when he flew out to left field to cut the score to 4-3.
Junior outfielder Demetrius Johnson would be the next batter up as he would slap a three-run homer to left field to give Goldey a 6-4 advantage in the third inning.
Four batters later, sophomore outfielder Christian Petrillo reached first base on a fielding error, which allowed a run to score to extend his team’s lead to 7-4.
Fast forward to the bottom of the sixth inning, where the Lightning continued to cushion their lead, as Demetrius Johnson would hit an RBI single through the left side to give GBC an 8-4 edge.
Senior outfielder Marlon Lindsey Jr. would get a run in for Goldey-Beacom in the seventh inning when he slapped an RBI double to left field to push the team’s advantage to 9-4.
The Rams would score one more run in the top of the eighth, but the Lightning pitching would take care of the rest to seal a 9-4 victory.
Pitching recap:
Junior pitcher Jake Kelchner went seven innings, gave up seven hits, four runs, four runs, three earned runs, two walks, struck out nine batters, and earned the win.
Junior pitcher Dylan Bittle pitched 0.2 innings, gave up one hit, one run, one earned run, and three walks.
Sophomore pitcher Alex Hinton closed out the game, as he went 1.1 innings, three hits, struck out one batter, and earned the save.
