CACC Tournament: Goldey-Beacom sweeps Jefferson in the first round

Game Leaders:

RBIs:   Christian Petrillo, Kyle Walker, Darin Miller, and Braden Kolmansberger would lead the team in RBIs with one in the win.

Runs:  Petrillo also led the team in runs with two in the game.

Hits: Johnny Kampes, Braden Kolmansberger, and Christian Petrillo would lead the team in hits, with one in the win.

Stolen bases: Petrillo stole three bases in the game.

Game Two Recap:

Jefferson would get the scoring started in game two as Marquise Wood would hit a solo home run to left center field to give his team a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning.

Goldey-Beacom would tie (2-2) the game up when Christian Petrillo stole third base and then scored on a throwing error by the Rams catcher.

In the fourth inning, GBC would take the lead by Darin Miller pushing in a run when he grounded out to third base to take the score to 2-1.

The home run party would continue for Jefferson, as the team hit two solo dingers in the top of the fifth inning to grab a 3-2 edge.

It would not take long for the Lightning to tie the game (3-3), as junior third baseman Kyle Walker would push in a run when he flew out to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Goldey would grab the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when sophomore infielder Braden Kolmansberger slapped a double down the left field line, and Christian Petrillo would hit an RBI sac bunt to take the score to 5-3.

The Lightning’s pitching would hold the Rams batters hitless for the rest of the game to seal a 5-3 victory.

Pitching recap:

Junior pitcher Justin Jump went 7.2 innings, gave up nine hits, three runs, three earned runs, struck seven batters out, hit two batters, and earned the win.

Junior pitcher Karl Schmidt went 1.1 innings, gave up one walk, struck three batters out, and earned the save.
