Wilmington University earns a split versus Molloy

The Wilmington University softball team picked up a split on Sunday in a doubleheader versus the Molloy University Lions. The Wildcats lost the first game 7-2 and won the second 2-1.

RBIs: Sara Miller would lead the team in RBIs, with two in the win.

Runs:  Miller and Gabriella Saucedo also led the team in runs, with one in the game.

Hits: Taylor Gillis, Miller, Haley Downin, Gabriella Saucedo, and Tristyn Stewart would lead the team in hits, with one in the win.

Home Runs: Sara Miller hit a home run in the game.

In the first five innings of this game, it was all about the pitchers as the two starters had their way with opposing lineups, only allowing four hits during that time.

Wilmington would break the silence on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning when junior third baseman/outfielder Sara Miller would hit a two-run homer to left field to give her team a 2-0 lead.

WilmU wasn’t the only team who could launch the ball out of the park, as in the bottom of the seventh inning. Molloy’s Katie Hand would hit a solo home run to left field to cut the score to 2-1.

After the home run, the Wildcats would get the next three batters out to seal a 2-1 victory over the Lions.

Pitching recap:

Sophomore pitcher Kylee Gunkel had a solid outing as she went seven innings, gave up four hits, one run, one earned run, one home run, struck out seven hitters, and earned the win.
