Wilmington University earns a split versus Felician

The Wilmington University baseball team picked up a split on Sunday in a doubleheader versus the Felician University Golden Falcons. The Wildcats won the first game 9-0 and lost the second 5-4.

RBIs: Erik Grady would lead the team in RBIs with three in the win.

Game Recap:

Wilmington would come out of the gate roaring as the team was the first one on the board, with Senior utility player Eddie Parry hitting an RBI single up the middle to give his team a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Parry would push in another run in the bottom of the second inning when he grounded out to the shortstop to expand WilmU’s edge to 2-0.

Two innings later, the Wildcats would cushion their lead a little more as the team scored four runs on six hits to take the score to 6-0.

Junior second baseman Erik Grady and freshman infielder Tyler Pirrung each hit an RBI single in the fourth inning, and junior catcher Jack McDonald had a two-run single.

The Cats would continue their scoring streak in the bottom of the fifth inning as the team added three runs on four hits.

 Erik Grady would get the scoring action started as he slapped a two-run single up the middle of the field to push the team’s advantage to 8-0.

 Tyler Pirrung would be the next batter up, as he hit an RBI single through the left side of the field to give Wilmington a 9-0 lead.

WilmU’s pitching would take it the rest of the way to seal a 9-0 victory over Felician.

Pitching recap:

Graduate student pitcher Kyle Maxwell had all the right pitches today, as he went seven innings, gave up four hits, one walk, struck four batters out, and earned the win.
