Goldey-Beacom earns a split versus Post

The Goldey-Beacom College softball team picked up a split on Saturday in a doubleheader versus the Post University Eagles. The Lightning lost their first game 4-1 and won their second 3-0.

Game Leaders:

RBIs: Gwen Safin and Delaney Insinga would lead the team in RBIs, with one in the win.

Runs: Alex Lowry, Insinga, and Emma Friel led the team in runs, with one in the game.

Hits: Alex Lowry, Safin, Insinga, Emma Friel, Carly Setting, and Gabriella Monzo would lead the team in hits, with one in the win.

Stolen Bases: Lowry led the team in stolen bases with two in the game.

Game Recap:

After each team’s lineup was quiet in the first inning, the Lightning would start to wake up in the bottom of the second, as the team scored two runs on three hits and one error.

The second inning started with freshman catcher/utility player Emma Friel hitting a single up the middle of the field.

Two batters later, freshman outfielder Delaney Insinga  came to the plate, and she would hit an RBI single to the shortstop to give Goldey-Beacom a 1-0 lead.

A short time later, Insinga would score on a throwing error from the catcher to extend her team’s lead to 2-0.

In the bottom of the third inning, junior designated player Gwen Safin would slap an RBI single to left field to expand Goldey’s edge to 3-0.

The Lightning’s pitching would do the rest for the next four innings and seal a 3-0 victory over Post.

Pitching recap:

Freshman pitcher Alesia Doctor pitched a complete game shutout, as she went seven innings, gave up three hits, one walk, struck out six batters, and earned the win.
