Goldey-Beacom’s winning streak hits four as they sweep Alliance

The Goldey-Beacom College softball team earned a pair of wins on Saturday to push their record to 28-18 on the season. The Lightning beat Alliance University 8-1 in the first game and 3-2 in the second.

Game Leaders:

RBIs: Alex Lowry, Morgan Scott, and Kaitlyn Jagielski would lead the team in RBIs, with two in the win.

Runs: Alex Lowry, Nicole Makin, Bri Snover, Rayna Pelcak, Carly Setting, Chrissy Jordan, Autumn Simpson, and Chasedy Johnson led the team in runs, with one in the game.

Hits: Scott would lead the team in hits with two in the win.

Game One Recap:

Alliance would get the scoring started in this game as they pushed in one run in the bottom of the first inning.

Fast forward to the top of the fifth inning, where the Goldey-Beacom lineup woke up, as the team scored seven runs on five hits and one error.

Freshman catcher/infielder Kaitlyn Jagielski would get the scoring action started by hitting a two-run double to the left-center to give her team a 2-1 lead.

Two batters later, sophomore infielder Alex Lowry would slap a two-run single up the middle of the field to extend the Lightning’s advantage to 4-1 in the top of the fifth inning.

Junior first baseman/outfielder Nicole Makin would step up to the plate next, as she would reach first base from an error by AU’s shortstop, which allowed a run to score to expand GBC’s edge to 5-1.

Freshman infielder Morgan Scott would join the scoring party as she knocked a two-run single up the middle of the field to give her team a 7-1 lead in the fifth inning.

Goldey-Beacom would add one last run in the eighth inning to take home a dominating 8-1 victory over Alliance.

Pitching recap:

Sophomore pitcher Morgan McLane had a solid outing as she went six innings, gave up five hits, one earned run, one run, three walks, struck out four batters, and earned the win.

Junior pitcher Gwen Safin would finish the game as she went one inning and had one strikeout.
