Goldey-Beacom crushes Alliance University 21-5 in the CACC opener

The Goldey-Beacom College baseball team opened up CACC play with a bang as the team crushed Alliance University 21-5 on Wednesday. The Lightning moved to a 14-8 record on the season with that dominating victory. Those 21 runs broke a school record for the most runs scored in their history.

Game Leaders:

RBIs: Marlon Lindsey Jr and Johnny Kampes would lead the team in RBIs with four in the win.

Runs: Lindsey Jr. and Kampes also led the team in runs with four in the game.

Hits: Kyle Walker and Kampes would lead the team in hits with three in the win.

Stolen bases: Christian Petrillo would lead the team in stolen bases with two.

Game Recap:

Goldey-Beacom started the scoring off early in this one, with senior catcher Johnny Kampes hitting a solo home run to left field to give his team a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Alliance would tie the game up in the second inning when Kareem Holloway hit a two-out RBI single, but this would be the last time this matchup would be close.

The Lightning would answer back in the bottom of the second inning with five hits turning into five runs and only leaving one man on base during that time.

One of the highlights in that inning came from junior outfielder Demetrius Johnson, who knocked in two of his teammates with a triple.

Kampes would continue his hot hitting in this one as the Lightning catcher hit a two-out RBI double in the second inning.

Hitting was not their only weapon in this inning, as the team stole bases and was issued a walk once.

After two innings, GBC would have a cushy 6-1 lead over Alliance, but the team was not done scoring runs just yet.

In the third and fourth innings, Goldey-Beacom’s bat slowed down some, as the team only had a combined four hits during that time. But the Lighting would score a combined two runs during that time to help increase their lead to 7-4.

Alliance would continue to hang around in this game, as Darnell Guerrero would hit a solo home run to left field to cut the lead to 8-5 in the top of the fifth inning.

The Lightning’s bats would charge up again in the bottom of the fifth as the team had four runs on four hits during that time.

Talk about starting the fifth inning off with a bang, as senior outfielder Marlon Lindsey Jr. started the scoring charge off by hitting a solo homer to left field.

Another key play in the in nning was when sophomore outfielder Christian Petrillo hit a one-out two-run single that pushed the score to 11-5. Petrillo would be the last run of the inning, as he scored on a wild pitch to take the team’s advantage to 12-5.

The hot streak continued in the sixth inning, as Goldey scored nine runs on four hits to expand their lead to 21-5 over Alliance.

Johnny Kampes would continue his electrifying day by hitting a double down the left-field line to score two of his teammates in the inning.

Another highlight in the inning would come from Lindsey Jr., who would hit a two-out, three-run double to help extend the lead to 20-5.

The game would end with the Lightning taking home a dominating 21-5 win over Alliance.

Pitching recap:

Hitting wasn’t the only thing that was working for Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday, as Freshman pitcher Kevin Dillon went six innings, gave up ten hits, seven strikeouts, five runs, and four earned runs, and earned the win.

Freshman Alex Cross closed the game by giving up one hit and had two strikeouts in one inning.
