Goldey-Beacom would be up by eight points at the end of the first quarter.
The game started with the Lightning striking first as the team jumped out to a 13-4 advantage with 7:12 left in the opening quarter. Alanna Speaks and Rory Ciszkowski scored ten of the team’s 13 points on the run. Goldey-Beacom was on fire from the three-point line during this time, as they drained three shots. Ciszkowski, Speaks, and freshman guard Karlee Lemon all made a shot from downtown.
Fifty-four seconds later, Bloomfield would start to find their groove, as the team outscored GBC 13-8 to cut the lead to four points (21-17) with 2:05 remaining in the first quarter.
Starting at the 1:33 minute mark, Goldey would go on a 5-1 run to grab a 26-18 advantage at the end of the opening quarter. Speaks was a leader in this run, as she had three points and two steals. Junior forward Janiya Stevens also stepped up during this time, as she had two points, two rebounds, and one assist.
The Lightning’s lead balloons to 14 points at the end of the first half.
Just like the first quarter, Goldey-Beacom would start the second off fast, as the team dashed off on a 13-4 run to push their edge to 39-22 with 5:47 left in the first half. Rory Ciszkowski and Alexis Harrison would score all 13 points during that time. Ciszkowski remained hot from the three-point line as she drained two shots from there during the run.
For the rest of the second quarter, the Bears would outscore the Lightning 14-11 to shave a little of their deficit with a score of 50-36.
Goldey-Beacom holds a 25 points advantage at the end of the third quarter.
The second half would start with Bloomfield finding a spark, as the team went on a 6-1 run to slice the lead to nine points (51-42) with 6:49 remaining in the third quarter.
Nineteen seconds later, GBC would respond back by outscoring the Bears 25-7 to extend their advantage to 76-49 with 18 seconds left in the third quarter. Lexi Weikert, Alanna Speaks, and Rory Ciszkowski would score 20 of the team’s 25 points during the run. Goldey-Beacom would continue their hot streak from the three-point line, as the team made five shots from there during that time. Weikert made three, Speaks had two, and Ciszkowski made one from downtown during the run.
GBC’s defense played a key part in the run, as they had four defensive rebounds, two blocks, and one steal.
The third quarter would end with the Lightning holding a 76-51 lead.
Lightning wins 98-68!
Fast forward to the 2:39 minute mark, where the Goldey-Beacom would drain three shots from the three-point line in a row to take a 96-64 advantage with 2:39 left in the game. Lexi Weikert made two of those three-pointers, and senior forward Jhordan Gardner drained the other one on the run.
Goldey would score two more points in the quarter to cruise to a 98-68 win over Bloomfield.
