The Route 1 Rivalry trophy will stay in Newark, Delaware, as the University of Delaware men’s basketball team defeated their in-state rival, the Delaware State University Hornets, 77-69. The win also marked head coach Martin Ingelsby’s 100th career victory.
Redshirt junior guard Jameer Nelson Jr. led the Blue Hens in scoring with 27 points. Nelson Jr. also hit a milestone in this game, as he went over the 1,000-point mark.
Senior guard Christian Ray recorded a double-double in the win with 11 points and ten rebounds.
Two other Hens players who scored in double-digits were Graduate Student guard LJ Owens (21), and Redshirt sophomore forward Jyáre Davis (11).
Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points off of turnovers (16-6), fast-break points (18-8), assists (13-12), turnovers (6-13), and steals (8-4).
