Blue Hens shutout VCU in season-opening 2-0 victory

The University of Delaware women’s field hockey team opened up their season on Friday with a 2-0 win over the Virginia Commonwealth University Rams.

The standouts in the game for the Blue Hens were junior midfielder Berber Bakermans, sophomore midfielder Ella Kaufman, senior midfielder Morgan Rigual, and Graduate Student goalkeeper Lizzie Gaebel.

Bakermans had two shots, one shot at the goal, and one goal in the win.

Kaufman had three shots, three shots at the goal, and one goal in the game.

Rigual had one shot, and one assist in the win.

Gaebel allowed zero goals and had five saves in 30 minutes of play.
