The Wilmington University baseball team is CACC Champions after beating the Post University Eagles 8-6 in a winner take all game. The second game on Saturday came because Wilmington lost their first one to Post earlier in the day. The Wildcats were down for most of this game until they captured the lead in the sixth inning and never looked back.
This is WilmU’s ninth CACC title and their third one out of the last four seasons. Also, the Wildcats secure an automatic bid to the NCAA DII tournament with the win.
Game stats:
RBIs: Junior outfielder Nic Hertzfeld led the team in RBIs in the win with two.
Runs: Sophomore second baseman Erik Grady led the team in runs scored with three.
Hits: Wilmington had a total of eight hits in the game. Hertzfeld led the team in hits in the win with two.
Stolen bases: Redshirt senior outfielder Quintin Ivy and Grady each stole a base in the game.
Pitching: On the pitching side, sophomore starting pitcher Matt Warrington went five innings, gave up four hits, four runs, one earned run, two walks, and five strikeouts.
Sophomore pitcher Xander Emberger would come in for Warrington, as he went 0.2 innings, gave up one hit, and one run.
Sophomore pitcher Dom Grady would relieve Emberger, as he went 1.1 innings, gave up one hit, and earned the win.
Sophomore pitcher Alex Hinton would come in for Grady, as he went one inning, and had one strikeout.
Freshman pitcher Alex Krick would close the game out, as he pitched one inning, gave up one hit, one run, one walk, one strikeout, and earned the save.
