Wilmington University earns NCAA DII East 2 Regional title and advances to their first-ever Super Regional

The Wilmington University softball team beat the Georgian Court University Lions 4-1 on Sunday to earn the NCAA DII East Regional title and advance to their first Super Regional. The game was resumed on Sunday in the fifth inning after it was postponed due to inclement weather on Saturday.

Game stats:

RBIs: Graduate student shortstop Lauren Lopez led the team in RBIs with two.

Runs: Sophomore outfielder Taylor Gillis, sophomore third baseman Lexi Moore, sophomore first baseman Sara Miller, and freshman outfielder/ designated player Tristyn Stewart led the team in runs scored with one.

Hits: Wilmington had a total of 12 hits in the game.  Gillis, senior first baseman Kiersten Comer, Moore, and Stewart led the team in hits in the win with two.

Stolen bases: Gillis, Miller, and Moore stole a base in the win.

Pitching: On the pitching side, freshman starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel went seven innings, gave up two hits, one run, three walks, three strikeouts, and earned the win.
