The Wilmington University softball team opened the NCAA DII East Super Regional with a 1-0 win against the Adelphi University Panthers on Thursday. The program is one win away from clinching a ticket to the NCAA II Softball Championship in Denver, Colorado. Game two is on Friday at noon ET.
Game stats:
Runs: Freshman outfielder Gabbie Saucedo led the team in runs scored with one.
Hits: Wilmington had a total of eight hits in the game. Saucedo and sophomore outfielder Taylor Gillis led the team in hits in the win with two.
Stolen bases: Sophomore third baseman Lexi Moore and freshman catcher Emma Zimmerman each stole a base in the win.
Pitching: On the pitching side, freshman starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel went seven innings, gave up one hits, three walks, five strikeouts, and earned the win.
