Wilmington leads 5-0 after six innings of play

The scoring in this game would start in the third inning when a wild pitch would advance runners and allow Wildcats JJ Killen to score to give his team a 1-0 lead.

Two innings later, the Wilmington lineup would push in another run as Jack McDonald would hit an RBI single to center field to give the team a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Wildcats would add three runs to their lead by a mix of three hits and two errors from the Post defense.

The first scoring play of the inning happened when junior outfielder Nic Hertzfeld would reach first base on an error from the Eagles’ shortstop, but allowed Killen and Erik Grady to score to extend Wilmington’s advantage to 4-0.

McDonald would be the next batter up, as he would reach base by an error from Post’s pitcher, which allowed sophomore shortstop Matt Warrington to score to give WilmU a 5-0 lead.

Wildcats lead by seven runs after seven innings

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Wilmington would add two more runs to their lead by a mix of one hit and one error from the Post defense.

Matt Warrington would help push in the first run of the inning when he reached first base by an error from the Eagles’ shortstop, which allowed Erik Grady to score to give their team a 6-0 lead. Nic Hertzfeld would push in the other run in the inning when he flew out to the right field, which would send JJ Killen home to extend the Wildcats’ lead to 7-0.

Wilmington wins 12-0!

The Wilmington hitters would really light up the bases in the eighth inning when the team pushed in five runs on three hits, five walks, and one stolen base.

Freshman designated hitter Shawn Edevane would push in the first run in the bottom of the eighth inning when he flew out to the center field, which would send sophomore third baseman Shawn Haut home to give their team an 8-0 advantage.

Four batters later, Jack McDonald would hit a two-out three-RBI double to give WilmU an 11-0 lead. Two batters later, senior outfielder John Mead would hit a double to right field, which would allow McDonald to score to give their team a 12-0 lead.

After silencing the Post hitters for eight innings, the Wildcats’ starting pitcher would finish the job off by adding one last zero on the scoreboard to seal a 12-0 win.
