Derry scores 25 points in Goldey-Beacom’s hard-fought 73-69 win over Jefferson

The Goldey-Beacom men’s basketball team earned their 11th win of the season on Wednesday as the team took home a hard-fought 73-69 win over the Jefferson University Rams. The win moves the Lightning a half-game within second place of the CACC south division.

The leading scorer in the win was sophomore guard Nazim Derry, who scored 25 points.

Three other Goldey-Beacom players who scored in double digits in the win were junior forward Juran Ligonde (11), senior guard Tyler Jones (14), and sophomore guard Mekhi Collins (10).

The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (42-32), points off of turnovers (11-10), fast-break points (10-1), assists (14-12), turnovers (9-11), and steals (7-3).

Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage of shooting as well, with the team shooting 48.1 %%( 26-54) and with Jefferson shooting 39.7 %(25-63). The Lightning also held the advantage at the three-point line with the team having a 38.5 % shooting percentage (5-13), and with the Rams having a 25.0 %(6-24) shooting percentage. Goldey-Beacom also bested Jefferson at the free-throw line as the team shot 72.7 %(16-22), and the Rams shot 68.4 % (13-19) at the foul line in the game.
