Season Stats: DSU’s Alaena Selden

Delaware Sports Blitz will be showcasing student-athletes performances from this past season each week.

Each week we will look at different colleges from the state of Delaware and showcase their athlete’s performance in the chosen sport of the week.

This week is all about Delaware State University’s softball team which will start with the senior catcher/infielder Alaena Selden.

Selden had a .327 batting average, .364 slugging percentage, .321 on-base percentage, four runs, 18 hits, five RBIs, two doubles, and six strikeouts in 20 games this season. The senior catcher/infielder led the team in hits in the shortened season.

On the defensive side, Selden had 48 catches, 37 putouts, eight assists, three errors and a fielding percentage of .938 in the 2020 season.

The Fairfield, California native was among the best in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in batting average, as Selden placed 10th with .327.  The DSU senior also placed eighth in the conference for hits with 18.

On the defensive side, Selden was among the best in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in putouts, as she placed 20th with 37.

Game Log

Hornets Open Season With 8-5 Loss Vs Northern Illinois

Northern Illinois opened up the game with a five-run first inning and never looked back in the game as the team handed Delaware State an 8-5 opening day loss.

Selden had two hits in the game. On the defensive side, Selden had five catches for five putouts.

DSU Get Swept By Northern Illinois 

The Huskies pitching was too much for the Delaware State’s hitters as the team would fall to Northern Illinois 10-2 on February 16th.

Selden had two hits, one RBI and one double in the loss.

Delaware State Falls 7-1 To Winthrop

Winthrop would score a combined six runs in the fourth and sixth innings to give DSU a 7-1 loss.

Selden had one hit in the loss. On the defensive side, Selden had three catches, two putouts, and one assist.

Hornets Lose 15-4 To Campbell

Errors ( 4) and getting out hit 17-5 would saddle DSU with a 15-4 loss against Campbell.

Selden had one RBI in the game. On the defensive side, Selden had nine catches for eight putouts and one assist.

DSU Falls 8-0 To Marshall

On February 28th, Delaware State would lose 8-0 to Marshall.

On the defensive side, Selden had four catches for two putouts and two assists.

Delaware State Earns First Win Of The Season Vs Fairleigh Dickinson

On the last day of February, the Hornets would earn their first win of the season which was a 4-2 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson.

Selden had one run and two hits in the win. On the defensive side, Selden had four catches for four putouts.

DSU Falls 8-1 To Marist

On March 6th, Marist would score a combined six runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to hand Delaware State a 8-1 loss.

Selden had one strikeout in the loss. On the defensive side, Selden had five catches for four putouts and one error.

DSU Gets Swept By Marist

The Hornets had a 4-0 lead in this game around the fourth inning but Marist would march back in the later innings to win 5-4.

Selden had one run, two hits, two RBIs and one double in the loss. On the defensive side, Selden had seven catches for three putouts, three assists, and one error.

Fairleigh Dickinson Hands Hornets A 4-3 Loss In Season Finale

The two teams battled in this game as the score was tied twice but Fairleigh Dickinson would score one run in the seventh to give DSU a 4-3 loss on the final game of the season.

Selden had one run in the loss. On the defensive side, Selden had four catches for two putouts, one assist and one error.
