Season Stats: DSU’s Caitlin Meyer

Delaware Sports Blitz will be showcasing student-athletes performances from this past season each week.

Each week we will look at different colleges from the state of Delaware and showcase their athlete’s performance in the chosen sport of the week.

This week is all about Delaware State University’s softball team which will continue with the senior utility player Caitlin Meyer.

Meyer had a .293 batting average, .561 slugging percentage, .442 on-base percentage, nine runs, 12 hits, two doubles, three home runs, six RBIs, six walks, hit by a pitch five times and 11 strikeouts. The senior Hornet led the team in runs scored, home runs and total bases in the 20 game season.

On the defensive side, Meyer had 117 catches for 113 putouts, one assist, three errors, a fielding percentage of .974, and four double plays in the 2020 season.

The Palm Bay, Florida native was among the best in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in slugging percentage, as Meyer placed seventh with .561. The DSU utility player also placed sixth in the conference in on-base percentage with .442. Meyer was also third in the MEAC in home runs with three.

On the defensive side, Meyer was among the best in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in putouts, as she placed third with 113.

Game Log

Hornets Open Season With 8-5 Loss Vs Northern Illinois

Delaware State would fall behind in this one early and even with the team storming back in the game in the mid to late innings, Hornets would lose 8-5 to Northern Illinois on opening day.

Meyer had two runs, two hits, one double, and was hit by a pitch in the loss. On the defensive side, Meyer had three catches for three putouts.

DSU Loses Fifth Straight Game

Errors (five) and getting out hit 12-3 would cause the Hornets to fall 15-1 over the College of Charleston on February 15th.

Meyer had one hit, one RBI and one walk in the game. On the defensive side, Meyer had seven catches for six putouts and one error.

Delaware State Falls 7-1 To Winthrop

Winthrop had two home runs and two big doubles in this game which helped saddled DSU with a 7-1 loss.

Meyer was hit by a pitch and struck out in the game. On the defensive side, Meyer had 10 catches for 10 putouts and one double play.

DSU Gets Outmuscled by Charlotte In 14-3 Loss 

Charlotte would score multiple runs in every inning in this game as the team put a 14-3 loss on Delaware State’s record.

Meyer had one run, one hit, and one double in the loss. On the defensive side, Meyer had four catches for four putouts.

Hornets Lose 6-4 To Hampton

DSU battled back twice in this game, first in the fourth inning to tie the game at three and then in the sixth inning to tie the game at four but that would not be enough as Hampton would score two runs in the sixth to take a 6-4 win on February 28th.

Meyer had two runs, two hits and one walk in the loss. On the defensive side, Meyer had five catches for five putouts and one double play.

Delaware State Earns First Win Of The Season Vs Fairleigh Dickinson

The Hornets would snap their 13-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over Fairleigh Dickinson.

Meyer had one run, one hit, two RBIs, one home run and was hit by a pitch in the win. On the defensive side, Meyer had six catches for six putouts and one double play.

DSU Falls To Fairleigh Dickinson 6-5

In the second game of the doubleheader against Fairleigh Dickinson, Delaware State had a 4-1 lead in this one but that would not last long. The Knights scored five runs in the fourth and fifth innings which would lead to a 6-5 to win over DSU.

Meyer had two runs, one hit, one RBI, one home run, one walk and a struck out once in the loss. On the defensive side, Meyer had nine catches for nine putouts.

Fairleigh Dickinson Hands Hornets A 4-3 Loss In Season Finale

Fairleigh Dickinson had three home runs in this game as the team handed the Hornets a 4-3 loss on March 7th.

Meyer had one run, one hit, two RBIs, one home run, one walk and was hit by a pitch in the game. On the defensive side, Meyer had nine catches for eight putouts and one error.
