Season Stats: Delaware’s Emily Winburn

Delaware Sports Blitz will be showcasing student-athletes performances from this past season each week.

Each week we will look at different colleges from the state of Delaware and showcase their athlete’s performance in the chosen sport of the week.

This week is all about Delaware’s softball team which will conclude with the freshman pitcher Emily Winburn.

Winburn had a 1.93 ERA, 6-2 record, three saves, 60 hits, 17 runs, 16 earned runs,  seven walks,  31 strikeouts, five doubles, two home runs and hit six batters in 13 appearances. The freshman pitcher led the team in ERA, wins, saves, innings pitched, appearances, and games started in the 2020 season.

The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native was among the best in the Colonial Athletic Association in earned run average, as Winburn placed in the fourth spot with 1.93. The Delaware pitcher also placed sixth in the CAA in strikeouts with 31. The freshman Blue Hen led the conference in saves with four.

Delaware Opens The Season With A 4-0 Win Vs Georgetown

The University of Delaware kicked off the season at the FGCU Kickoff Classic which the team opened up with a 4-0 win over Georgetown on February 7th.

Winburn pitched three innings, three hits, one walk, two strikeouts, and earned the save in the game.

The Blue Hens Get A 9-6 Win Vs UConn

After a tough loss from FGCU, the Blue Hens would rebound in the next game with a 9-6 win over UConn.

Winburn pitched 1.1 innings, one strikeout, and earned the save in the game.

Winning Streak Hits Three With Win Vs LIU

The Hens would continue to ride the winning momentum they were building as the team would take home a dominating 11-2 win over LIU to extend their winning streak to three.

Winburn pitched five innings, five hits, two runs, two earned run, four strikeouts, one double, and hit a batter in the win.

Delaware Winning Streak Extends To Five

The action in this one started in the fifth inning for Delaware where the team scored four runs to take a 4-1 lead. The Hens would then score three runs in the seventh inning to seal a 7-2 win over Cleveland State on February 14th.

Winburn pitched seven innings, seven hits, two runs, two earned runs, one walk, two strikeouts, two home runs, and hit a batter in the win.

Blue Hens Get Seventh Straight Win Vs, Fairleigh Dickinson

Fairleigh Dickinson would try to mount a comeback in this game with scoring four runs in the sixth but Delaware would hang on to win 6-4.

Winburn pitched 1.1 innings, three hits, one strikeout, and earned the save in the win.

UD Winning Streak Extends To 10 Games

The Blue Hens would get out hit in this game 13-11 but the team used their time on the bases wisely to score nine runs which earned them a 9-3 win over Quinnipiac.

Winburn pitched four innings, nine hits, one run, one earned run, two strikeouts, one double, and hit a batter in the win.

Hens Take A Win 4-2 Win Vs, George Mason

Delaware would get their 14th win of the season with a 4-2 win over George Mason on March 1st.

Winburn pitched seven innings, four hits, two runs, one earned run and three strikeouts in the win.

Delaware Extends Winning Streak To Four With 1-0 Win Vs UMBC

The Blue Hens hitting struggled throughout this game but the team came through in the seventh inning to score the winning run to beat UMBC 1-0.

Winburn pitched seven innings, four hits, four strikeouts, and hit a batter in the win.

Hens Streak Goes To Six With 2-1 Win Vs Binghamton

Despite getting out hit 6-2 in this game, the Blue Hens would defeat Binghamton 2-1 on March 8th.

Winburn pitched four innings, two hits, one earned run, one walk, five strikeouts, one double in the win.

UD Ends The Season With A Win

The Blue Hens would finish the shortened 2020 season with an 8-2 win over Hampton.

Winburn pitched 1.2 innings, gave up one hit, and earned the save in the game.
