The Wilmington University softball team opened up their season on Friday with a sweep of the USciences Devils. In the first game, Wilmington dominated with a 7-0 win, and in the second game, they won with a 9-8 score.

Game One Stats (7-0 win Vs USciences)
The RBIs in the game came from freshman second baseman Haley Downin (1), junior third baseman Lauren Lopez (4), and senior shortstop Alyssa Velasquez (2).
Five Wildcats had runs in the win, which were Downin (2), freshman infielder Danielle Hess (1), freshman center fielder Isabella Eleazar (1), and junior right fielder Courtney Dellinger (2), and freshman left fielder Sara Miller (1).
The Wilmington hitters gained ten hits in the win, which were Miller (2), Downin (1), Lopez (2), senior catcher Annie Davila (1), Velasquez (3), and Eleazar (1).
Hess and Dellinger stole a base in the win.
On the pitching side, freshman pitcher Molly Dill shutdown the Devils hitters in this game as she went seven innings, gave up three hits, two walks, seven strikeouts, and earned the win.
69 out of Dill’s 112 pitches were strikes.

Game one recap
Lopez bats in three runs in the second inning
Both teams could not get a run on the board in the first inning, but Wilmington would change that in the second inning.
The scoring in the second inning would start with Isabella Eleazar, Courtney Dellinger, and Haley Downin all earning a walk which had the bases loaded with two outs.
Lauren Lopez would step out to the plate and hit a two-out double which scored Eleazar, Dellinger, and Downin to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning.

WilmU scores another run in the fifth inning
The top of the fifth inning would start with Lauren Lopez hitting a single to left field, and on the next play, Danielle Hess would come into the game to pinch run for her. Hess then would use her speed and steal second base on the next play.
The next batter was Annie Davila, who would hit a single but advanced to second on the throw.
Alyssa Velasquez would follow Davila, which she hit a single to left field that allowed Hess to score to give Wilmington a 4-0 lead.
Wilmington cruises to a 7-0 win
In the top of the sixth inning, the Wildcats would add three more runs to their lead.
The first run in the inning came when Haley Downin hit a single, which scored her teammate Courtney Dellinger to give WilmU a 5-0 lead.
The next score in the inning came when Lauren Lopez grounded out, but Sara Miller would score to give Wilmington a 6-0 lead.
The last run of the inning came from Alyssa Velasquez, who hit a single, which would allow Downin to score to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead.
Wilmington’s pitcher Molly Dill dominated this whole game, and the bottom of the seventh inning was no different as she sat the Devils hitters down, only giving up two hits. Dill went seven innings, gave up three hits, two walks, seven strikeouts, and earned the win.

Dill’s dominant start would seal a 7-0 win for the Wildcats.
