Delaware Sports Blitz will be showcasing student-athletes performances from this past season each week.
Each week we will look at different colleges from the state of Delaware and showcase their athlete’s performance in the chosen sport of the week.
This week is all about Delaware State University’s softball team which will conclude with the graduate Student pitcher Brianna Baker.
Baker had a 6.50 ERA, 1-7 record, five complete games, gave up 100 hits, 61 runs, 52 earned runs, 10 walks, 17 strikeouts, 13 doubles, four triples, 13 home runs, and hit four batters in 12 appearances. The Delaware State pitcher led the team in wins, ERA, innings pitched, appearances and games started in the 2020 season.
The Waldorf, Maryland native was among the best in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in earned run average, as Baker placed 10th with 6.50. The DSU grad student was seventh in the MEAC in strikeouts with 17.

Hornets Open Season With 8-5 Loss Vs Northern Illinois
Delaware State would fall behind in this one early and even with the team storming back in the game in the mid to late innings, Hornets would lose 8-5 to Northern Illinois on opening day.
Baker pitched seven innings, 12 hits, eight runs, six earned runs, two walks and three strikeouts in the loss.
DSU Falls To Coastal Carolina With a 10-0 Loss
Coastal Carolina scored a combined nine runs in the second and fourth innings in this game and the Hornets hitting was not there in this one, as the team lost 10-0 on February 15th.
Baker pitched one inning, one hit, one run, one earned run, three walks and two strikeouts in the loss.
Delaware State Falls 7-1 To Winthrop
Winthrop had two home runs and two big doubles in this game which helped saddled DSU with a 7-1 loss.
Baker pitched 2.2 innings, seven hits, three runs, and three earned runs in the loss.
Hornets Falls 9-1 To Campbell
Campbell would score seven runs in the bottom of the first inning which would lead the team to a 9-1 win over Delaware State.
Baker pitched 3.2 innings, nine hits, four runs, four earned runs and two strikeouts in the loss.
DSU Earns First Win Of The Season Vs Fairleigh Dickinson
Hornets would score a combined four runs in the second and third inning of this game to come out with a 4-2 win.
Baker pitched seven innings, 11 hits, two runs, two earned runs and two strikeouts in the win.
Fairleigh Dickinson Hands Hornets A 4-3 Loss In Season Finale
The two teams battled in this game as the score was tied twice but Fairleigh Dickinson would score one run in the seventh to give DSU a 4-3 loss on the final game of the season.
Baker pitched 6.1 innings, six hits, four runs and four earned runs in the season finale.
