Season Stats: Delaware’s Brittney Mendoza

Delaware Sports Blitz will be showcasing student-athletes performances from this past season each week.

Each week we will look at different colleges from the state of Delaware and showcase their athlete’s performance in the chosen sport of the week.

This week is all about Delaware’s softball team which will continue with the sophomore infielder Brittney Mendoza.

Mendoza had a .348 batting average, .667 slugging percentage, .427 on-base percentage, 13 runs, 24 hits, eight doubles, one triple, four home runs, 24 RBIs, and four stolen bases in 23 games this season. The Blue Hen second baseman led the team in RBIs ( co-leader) and home runs ( co-leader).

On the defensive side, Mendoza had 76 catches for 41 putouts, 34 assists, one error, five double plays, and a fielding percentage of .987.

The Chula Vista, California native was among the best in the Colonial Athletic Association in batting average, as Mendoza placed in the 15th spot with .348. The sophomore infielder also placed 14th in the conference in runs with 13. The Blue Hen second baseman was also fifth in the CAA in hits with 34. Mendoza also placed second in doubles, eighth in triples, sixth in home runs, first in RBIs, and 10th in slugging percentage in the CAA.

On the defensive side, Mendoza was among the best in the Colonial Athletic Association in putouts, as she placed in the 19th spot with 41. Delaware infielder also placed sixth in assists, third in double plays, and 15th in fielding percentage.

Delaware Opens The Season With A 4-0 Win Vs Georgetown

The University of Delaware kicked off the season at the FGCU Kickoff Classic which the team opened up with a 4-0 win over Georgetown on February 7th.

Mendoza had one run, one hit, one RBI, one triple, and one strikeout in the win. On the defensive side, Mendoza had one catch for one assist.

The Blue Hens Get A 9-6 Win Vs UConn

UConn was down 9-0 by the fourth inning to the Hens, the team would tighten the score in the later innings but Delaware would hang on to win 9-6.

Mendoza had one run, two hits, four RBIs and one double in the win. On the defensive side, Mendoza had three catches for two assists and one error.

Back To Back Wins For The Hens

The Blue Hens pitching was the story of this game as the staff left the Boston College hitters unbalanced which gave UD a 2-0 win on March 8th.

Mendoza had one hit in the win. On the defensive side, Mendoza had seven catches for five putouts and two assists.

Winning Streak Hits Three With Win Vs LIU

Delaware would score multiple runs in every inning of this game except one which was the fourth inning where the team scored one. The explosion of offense gave the Hens an 11-2 win against LIU on March 9th.

Mendoza had one run, one hit, three RBIs, one double, one walk, and was hit by a pitch in the game.

Blue Hens Winning Streak Hits Four With 9-4 Win Vs Grambling

The University of Delaware would never look back in this one after getting a 6-4 lead as the team would eventually win the game with a score of 9-4 over Grambling.

Mendoza had one hit and one RBI in the win. On the defensive side, Mendoza had two catches for two assists.

Delaware Winning Streak Extends To Five

The action in this one started in the fifth inning for Delaware where the team scored four runs to take a 4-1 lead. The Hens would then score three runs in the seventh inning to seal a 7-2 win over Cleveland State on February 14th.

Mendoza stole one base, was hit by a pitch, and had one strikeout in the win. On the defensive side, Mendoza had three catches for one putout, two assists, and one double play.

UD Winning Streak Hits Six

The Hens started this game off with hitting two solo home runs in the first inning which then the team would show their speed in the fifth as four more runs came off of two doubles. Delaware would win 6-2 over Incarnate Word which pushed their winning streak to six.

Mendoza had one hit, was hit by a pitch, and had one strikeout in the win. On the defensive side, Mendoza had six catches for four putouts, two assists, and one double play.

Blue Hens Get Seventh Straight Win Vs, Fairleigh Dickinson

On March 15th, the University of Delaware would halt a comeback attempt from Fairleigh Dickinson to win the game 6-4.

Mendoza had one run, three hits, three RBIs, two doubles and one walk in the win. On the defensive side, Mendoza had eight catches for six putouts, two assists, and one double play.

Delaware’s Win Streak Hits Eight With 5-3 Win Vs Cleveland State

The Blue Hens would stage a late-game rally as the team would score three runs in the seventh inning to seal a 5-3 comeback win on February 16th.

Mendoza had one run, one hit, one RBI, one home run, two walks and one stolen base in the win. On the defensive side, Mendoza had three catches for two putouts and one assist.

Hens Get Ninth Straight Win Vs Sacramento State

Delaware would open up the LMU tournament with a 2-1 over Sacramento State on February 21st.

Mendoza had one run, one hit and a stolen base in the win. On the defensive side, Mendoza had five catches for four putouts and one assist.

UD Winning Streak Extends To 10 Games

The Hens would score a combined four runs in the first two innings of the game which the team would follow up by scoring a combined five runs in the fifth and six innings to seal a 9-3 win over Quinnipiac.

Mendoza had one hit, one walk and one strikeout in the win. On the defensive side, Mendoza had three catches for one putout and two assists.

Blue Hens Dominate Loyola Marymount For 12th Win

The Blue Hens would conclude the LMU tournament on a high note with a dominating 14-1 win against Loyola Marymount on February 23rd.

Mendoza had one run, two hits, two RBIs and one home run. On the defensive side, Mendoza had one catch for one putout.

Delaware Snaps A Two-Game Losing Streak With 9-1 Vs Lafayette

UD already had a three-run cushion in this game by the fourth inning but the team would add five more runs to their lead in the fifth to get a 9-1 win over Lafayette.

Mendoza had two runs, two hits, two RBIs, one double, and one stolen base in the win. On the defensive side, Mendoza had four catches for four assists.

Hens Take A Win 4-2 Win Vs, George Mason

Delaware would get their 14th win of the season with a 4-2 win over George Mason on March 1st.

Mendoza had one run, two hits, two RBIs, one home run, and two strikeouts in the win. On the defensive side, Mendoza had four catches for two putouts, two assists, and one double play.

UD Wins Third Straight Game

The University of Delaware had all facets of the game working well in this game as the pitching was sharp and the hitting came through in the middle innings to get the team a 7-2 win over Saint Peters.

Mendoza had two runs, one hit, two RBIs, one home run and one walk in the game. On the defensive side, Mendoza had three catches for three assists.

Delaware Extends Winning Streak To Four With 1-0 Win Vs UMBC

The Blue Hens pitching did most of the work in this game as the staff stifled UMBC hitters which made it impossible for the Retrievers to score any runs. Delaware would scrounge up the winning run in the seventh inning to win 1-0 against the UMBC on March 7th.

Mendoza had one walk and one strikeout in the win. On the defensive side, Mendoza had three catches for three putouts.

Blue Hens Winning Streak Hits Five

Delaware’s pitching would continue on their hot streak as the team would shut down Norfolk State’s hitters which would get the team a 3-0 win.

Mendoza had two hits, three RBIs and one double in the win. On the defensive side, Mendoza had one catch for one putout.

Hens Streak Goes To Six With 2-1 Win Vs Binghamton

Despite getting out hit 6-2 in this game, the Blue Hens would defeat Binghamton 2-1 on March 8th.

On the defensive side, Mendoza had four catches for two putouts and two assists.

UD Ends The Season With A Win

The Hens would end the season on a high note, as the team took an 8-2 win over Hampton.

On the defensive side, Mendoza had one catch for one assist.
