Goldey-Beacom earns a split versus Jefferson

The Goldey-Beacom College softball team picked up a split on Wednesday in the doubleheader versus the Jefferson University Rams. The Lightning dropped the first game 1-0 and won the second 3-2.

Softball earn a split at Jefferson!

Game Leaders:

RBIs: Hannah Davis would lead the team in RBIs, with two in the win.

Runs: Davis also led the team in runs, with two in the game.

Hits: Davis and Kaitlyn Jagielski would lead the team in hits with two in the win.

Home Runs: Davis would lead the team with one home run in the game.

Stolen bases: Davis would steal a base in the win.

Game Recap:

Goldey-Beacom would get the scoring started right in the top of the first inning, as they pushed in two runs on four hits and left two players on base.

The inning started with sophomore infielder Alex Lowry hitting a triple to the right center of the field.

Junior outfielder Hannah Davis would come up to the plate next, as she would hit an RBI single to right center to give the Lightning a 1-0 lead.

Two batters later, senior pitcher Chrissy Jordan hit an RBI bunt single to the pitcher to expand her team’s advantage to 2-0 in the top of the first inning.

In the bottom of the first inning, Jefferson would cut into Goldey’s lead when Emily Akelaitis would hit an RBI single to bring the score to 2-1.

Fast forward to the fifth inning when the Rams would score another run, but this time it was from a throwing error by Goldey-Beacom that helped push the baserunner home to tie the game at two.

Two innings later, Hannah Davis would come up to the plate and smack a solo home run to left field to give the Lightning a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh.

Goldey’s pitching would do the rest to seal a 3-2 victory over Jefferson.

Freshman pitcher Alesia Doctor pitched a complete game, as she went seven innings, gave up eight hits, one run, one earned run, two walks, nine strikeouts, and earned the win.
