The team did just that as they scored one run on two hits in the bottom of the first.
Sophomore infielder Alex Lowry would start the inning off by hitting a single to the right side of the field.
Two batters later, junior first baseman/outfielder Nicole Makin stepped up to the plate, and she would hit an RBI double to the left field to give the Lightning a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the second inning, the Cougars would finally get on the board when Courtney Grundhauser smacked a two-run homer to left-center field to give her team a 2-1 advantage.
It would not take Goldey long to answer back, as the team scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning.
The inning started with senior infielder Carly Setting hitting a single through the right of the field.
Four batters later, senior designated player Chrissy Jordan would hit a two-run double to left field, which would give GBC a 3-2 edge in the bottom of the third inning.
Chrissy Jordan would continue to push in runs, as she hit an RBI sac bunt to expand Goldey-Beacom’s lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Lightning’s pitching would do the rest to give their team a 4-2 victory over Caldwell.
Pitching recap:
Freshman pitcher Alesia Doctor pitched a complete game, as she went seven innings, gave up five hits, two runs, two earned runs, three walks, 11 strikeouts, and earned the win.
