Harrison Records Fifth Double-Double Of The Season In Lightning’s 67-54 Win Vs Concordia (N.Y.)

The Goldey-Beacom women’s basketball team defeated the Concordia College Clippers 67-54 on Saturday at the Joseph West Jones Center.

The leading scorer for the Lightning was senior guard Amanda McGrogan who scored 18 points.

Sophomore forward Alexis Harrison recorded a double-double in the win as she had 16 points and 13 rebounds. This is the fifth time this season, Harrison has recorded a double-double.

Sophomore guard Lexi Weikert also scored in double-digits as she has 16 points.

The Lightning had the advantage in multiple categories in the game which included points in the paint (26-24), assists (13-5) and turnovers (17-21).

Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage of shooting as well, with the team shooting 36.7 %( 22-60) and with Concordia shooting 29.5 % (18-61). The Lightning also held the advantage at the three-point line with the team having a 35.3 % shooting percentage (6-17) and with the Clippers having a 16.7 % (3-18) shooting percentage.

McGrogan Leads Lightning To A Seven Point Lead After One Qtr

The leading scorer for the Lightning in the first quarter was Amanda McGrogan who had seven points. As a team, Goldey shot 29.4 % (5-17) in the first quarter and the team also shot 100.0 % (2-2) at the free-throw line.

Concordia shot 21.4 % (3-14) in the first quarter and they also shot 75.0 % (3-4) at the free-throw line.

The game started with the Lightning jumping out to a 5-2 lead but it would not last long as the Clippers would hit three straight free throw shots to tie the game at five with 6:50 left in the quarter.

Goldey-Beacom would start a 6-2 run at the 5:34 minute mark which gave the team an 11-7 lead with 3:25 left in the quarter. Freshman forward Janiya Stevens would be the leading scorer on that run as she had four of the six points.

McGrogan would make two free throw shots at the end of the first to increase Goldey’s lead to 13-9.

Goldey-Beacom’s Shooting Catches Fire In the Second

The leading scorers for the Lightning in the second quarter were Alexis Harrison and Lexi Weikert who each had eight points.

Goldey-Beacom had their best shooting percentage of the game in the second quarter as the team shot 57.1 % (8-14). The Lightning also shot 66.7 % (2-3) at the free-throw line in the second quarter.

Concordia had its worst shooting percentage of the game in the second quarter as the team shot 17.6 % (3-17). The Clippers also shot 66.7 % (4-6) at the free-throw line in the second quarter.

The Lightning started the second quarter with jumping on a 14-3 run which pushed their lead to 27-12 with 3:51 left in the half. Harrison was the leader on that run as she scored six of the 14 points.

Goldey outscored the Clippers 9-5 for the rest of the quarter to increase their lead at the half to 36-19.

Concordia Bounces Back In Third But Lightning Still Holds Slim Lead

The leading scorers for the Lightning in the second quarter were Alexis Harrison and Lexi Weikert who each had three points.

The third quarter was the Lightning’s worst shooting quarter of the game, as the team shot 20.0 % (3-15). Goldey-Beacom also shot 50.0 % (1-2) at the free-throw line in the third quarter.

Goldey might have regressed in the third but the Clippers had their best shooting percentage of the game in this quarter, as the team shot 46.2 % (6-13). Concordia also shot 83.3 % (5-6) at the free-throw line in the third quarter.

The Clippers outscored the Lightning 20-7 in the third quarter to decrease Goldey’s lead to 43-39.

The Lightning Wakes Up In Fourth And Takes Home The Win

The leading scorer in the fourth quarter was Lexi Weikert who had eight points. The Lightning rebounded in their shooting in the fourth as the team shot 42.9 % (6-14). Goldey-Beacom also shot 60.0 % (9-15) at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.

Concordia shot 35.3 % (6-17) in the fourth quarter and the team also shot 42.9 % (3-7) at the foul line.

At the 2:33 minute mark, the Lightning would start a 14-8 run which would seal a 67-54 home win.

Goldey heads to Philadelphia to take on Holy Family on February 12th at 5:30 ET.
