Wesley Overwhelms Immaculata To Take A 76-44 Win

The Wesley College men’s basketball team made easy work of the Immaculata University Mighty Macs on Wednesday as the Wolverines won 76-44 at Alumnae Hall.

The leading scorer of the game for Wesley was freshman forward Michael McCants who scored 17 points. McCants also recorded a double-double in the game as he had 10 rebounds with his 17 points.

Two other Wolverines scored in double digits in the win which was senior guard Brian Cameron (16) and sophomore guard Greg Bloodsworth (14).

Senior forward Terrence Braxton was the leading rebounder for Wesley in the game with 13.

Wesley had the advantage in multiple categories in the game which included points in the paint (48-28), points off turnovers (10-9), second-chance points (15-6), rebounds (54-30), assists (13-7) and steals (7-5).

The Wolverines also had the advantage of shooting as well, with the team shooting 44.9 %( 31-69) and with Immaculata shooting 29.5 % (18-61). Wesley also held the advantage at the free-throw line with the team having a 76.9 %shooting percentage (10-13) and with the Mighty Macs having a 50.0 % (4-8) shooting percentage.

Wesley Goes Into The Half With A 15 Point Lead

Wesley dominated the first half but their shooting could have been better as the team shot 40.00 % (14-35). The Wolverines also shot 50.00 % (2-4) at the free-throw line in the first half.

Immaculata shots were just not falling in the first half as the team shot 28.00 % (7-25) and they also shot 50.00 % ( 2-4) at the free-throw line.

The Wolverines did not waste any time in getting into a groove, as the team opened up the game with a 13-3 run. Michael McCants led Wesley on the run by scoring seven of the 13 points.

At the 14:20 minute mark,  Wesley would start on a 12-6 run which would push their lead to 25-9 with 6:59 left in half. Brian Cameron and  Greg Bloodsworth led the run with each of them scoring four of the 12 points.

The Mighty Macs outscored the Wolverines 8-7 for the rest of the half but Wesley would still hold a dominating 32-17 lead.

Wolverines Take Home A 32 Point Win

Wesley improved their shooting in the second half as the team shot 50.00 %(17-34) and they also shot 88.89 % (8-9) from the free-throw line.

Immaculata also improved their shooting from the first half as the team shot 30.56 % (11-36) in the second half. The Mighty Macs also shot 50.00 % (2-4) from the free-throw line in the second half.

The Wolverines continued their momentum into the second half as the team went on a 20-6 run to extend their lead to 54-25 with 12:36 remaining in the game. Michael McCants was the leading man on that run by scoring six of the 20 points.

Wesley went on another run which started at the 10:54 minute mark, as the team went on a  19-8 run to expand their lead to 71-33 with 4:20 left in the game.

The Mighty Macs would outscore the Wolverines 11-5 for the rest of the game but Wesley would still take home an overwhelming 76-44 victory.

The Wolverines head back home to take on Marywood on January 18th at 3 PM ET.
