Delaware Gets First Win Of The Season With 72-55 Win Over Cal State Fullerton

The University of Delaware women’s basketball team ended a four-game losing streak on Friday as the team defeated the California State University Fullerton Titans 72-55 at Titan Gym. The win marks the first win of the season for the Delaware squad.

The leading scorers in the game for the Blue Hens were senior guard Abby Gonzalez and sophomore guard/forward Jasmine Dickey who each scored 17 points.

Dickey also had a double-double as she scored 17 points and had 11 rebounds.

Graduate student Nicole Enabosi also scored in double digits in the game with 13 points.

Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game which included points in the paint (28-22), second-chance points (9-4), fast-break points (13-12), turnovers (9-13) and steals (9-4).

Blue Hens also had the advantage of shooting as well, with the team shooting 39.3 % (24-61) and with the Titans shooting 30.2 % ( 19-63). Delaware also bested California State University Fullerton at the three-point line as the team shot 46.2 % (6-13) and the Titans 17.6 % (3-17).

Delaware Takes 12 Point Lead In The First Period

Abby Gonazlez led the Blue Hens in scoring for the first period with 11 points. As a team, Delaware shot 47.4% (9-19) and 75.0%(3-4) at the three-point line.

The Titans flat out struggled in the first period with shooting, as the team shot 18.8% (3-16) in the first period. California State University Fullerton also shot 83.3% ( 5-6) at the foul line in the first period.

The first period started with Delaware going on a 9-0 run which was led by Nicole Enabosi who score four of the nine points.

At the 5:59 minute mark, Delaware would outscore the Titans 14-9 to end the period with a 23-11 lead. Gonazlez led the charge on this run by scoring eight out of the 14 points.

Blue Hens Take a 19 Point Lead Into Half

In the second period, Delaware was not finding their shots as easily as in the first as the team shot 30.8% (4-13). The Blue Hens also shot 75% (3-4) at the free-throw line in the second period.

The Titans were still struggling with finding their shot as the team shot 15.8% (3-19) in the second period.

The Hens outscored California State University Fullerton 13-6 in the period to increase their lead to 36-17 going into halftime.

First Half Stats

Delaware shot 40.6% (13-32) in the first half and California State University Fullerton shot 17.1% (6-35).

The Blue Hens shot 71.4% (5-7) at the free-throw line in the first half and the Titans shot 83.3% (5-6).

Abby Gonazlez was the leading scorer for the Blue Hens in the first half as she scored 14 points.

Madison Freemon was the leading scorer for the Titans in the first half as she scored six points.

Delaware Leads By 22 After Three Periods

The leading scorer for the Hens in the third period was Jasmine Dickey who had six points. As a team, Delaware shot 44.4% (8-18) in the third period and they also shot 83.3% (5-6) at the free-throw line.

California State University Fullerton improved mightly in their shooting in the third period as the team shot 40.0% (6-15). The Titans also shot 87.5% (7-8) at the free-throw line.

The third period started with the Titans going on an 11-6 run which decreased Delaware’s lead to 42-28 with 6:22 left in third.

Starting at the 5:46 minute mark, Delaware would go on a 7-1 run which increased their lead to 49-30 with 3:14 left in the third period. Dickey led the run with scoring four of the seven points.

The Blue Hens would outscore the Titans 9-6 for the rest of the period to go into the fourth with a 58-36 lead.

Hens Seal 17 Point Win

The leading scorer for the Hens in the fourth period was Jasmine Dickey with nine points. Delaware had their worst shooting period of the game in the fourth, as the team shot 25.0% (3-12). The Blue Hens did capitalize their time at the foul line as the team shot 80% (8-10).

California State University Fullerton shot 38.9% (7-18) in the fourth period and the team also shot 50.0% (3-6) at the three-point line.

The fourth period started with the Hens going on a 9-3 run which pushed their lead to 67-39 with 6:44 left in the game. Dickey led the charge on that run by scoring three of the nine points.

The Titans would answer back with a run of their which was a 15-0 run which decreased the Blue Hens lead to 67-54 with 2:57 left in the game.

Delaware would hit five free throws in a row to end the game with a winning score of 72-55.

The Hens stay in California and take on Santa Clara on November 30th at 5:30 PM.
