The University of Delaware men’s basketball team is still undefeated on the season as the team moves to 8-0, after beating the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks on Friday 75-56 at the Bob Carpenter Center.
The leading scorer of the game for the Blue Hens was redshirt junior guard Nate Darling who scored 23 points.
Redshirt sophomore forward Justyn Mutts had a double-double in the game as he had 22 points and 16 rebounds. This is Mutts fourth double-double of the season.
One other Blue Hen player scored in double digits which was junior guard Ryan Allen who scored 19 points.
Redshirt senior forward Collin Goss was gobbling down those rebounds in this game as he had 10.
Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in this game which included points in the paint (28-24), fast-break points (7-6), rebounds (43-34), assists (10-8) and blocks (5-3).
The Blue Hens also bested the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in shooting percentage by shooting 44.2 %(23-52) and the Hawks shot 33.3 % (22-66). Delaware also had the advantage at the three-point line by shooting 35.0 % (7-20) and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore shot 29.2 % (7-24).
The Hens also went often to the free-throw line in this game and made it count as the team shot 88.0 % (22-25). The Hawks shot 62.5 % (5-8) at the free-throw line in the game.
Delaware Ends With A Nine-Point Lead At The Half
Justyn Mutts was the leading scorer for the Blue Hens in the first half as he scored 16 points.
In the first half as a team, the Blue Hens shot 48.00 % (12-25) and the team also took advantage of their time at the free-throw line as they shot 80.00 % (12-15).
The Blue Hens defense did a good job of not giving the University of Maryland Eastern Shore any good looks, as the team shot 33.33 % (12-36) in the first half. The Hawks also shot 60.00 % (3-5) from the free-throw line in the first half.
In the first 12 minutes of this game, the lead was bouncing back and forth like a fierce ping pong competition but around the 7:38 minute mark that would change.
Delaware would outscore the Hawks 16-10 in the late minutes of the half which gave the team a 39-30 lead at the half. Justyn Mutts was the leading man on the Blue Hens late run in the first half with scoring eight of those 16 points.

Hens Defenses Continues To Stifle Hawks To Seal Win
Nate Darling was the leading scorer for the Blue Hens in the second half as he scored 19 points.
In the second half, the Blue Hens regressed in their shooting as they shot 40.74 % (11-27). The Hens also shot 100.00 % (10-10) at the free-throw line in the second half.
Delaware’s defense was still relentless on the Hawks offense as they just could not find their shot in the second half with them shooting 33.33 % (10-30). University of Maryland Eastern Shore also shot 66.67 % (2-3) at the free-throw line.
The Hens out-rebounded the Hawks 23-14 in the second half.
The second half started with the Blue Hens going on an 11-7 run to increase their lead to 50-37 with 13:37 left in the game. Nate Darling led the charge on the run by scoring five of the 11 points.
Delaware went on another run at the 10:31 minute mark with this time being an 11-4 run. The run pushed Blue Hens lead to 61-50 with 6:43 left in the game. Darling once again led the charge on the run with scoring six of the 11 points.
The Hens would outscore the Hawks 14-6 for the rest of half to take home a 75-61 win.
Hens stay at home to take on Columbia on December 2nd at 7:00pm ET.
